Well, this is odd. I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.8.5, and running BOINC 7.2.33. After I updated to 7.2.33 from 7.2.28, the Advanced View has disappeared. I can have the Simple View showing, but if I click on Advanced View in the menu, or I use the keyboard shortcut (shift-command-A), the Simple window disappears and nothing at all comes up. Using the menu or the keyboard, I can easily get the Simple view back. All other OSX applications seem to work fine, it is only BOINC, and I think only this newest version. Rebooting does not help. Reinstalling BOINC 7.2.33 on top of the same version does not help.
I have other Macs running BOINC 7.2.33 and they do not have this issue. Software update says OSX is up to date.
Any ideas ?
I wanted to go back to 7.2.28 to see that would fix it, but even after using the BOINC uninstall program, the computer "remembers" it had 7.2.33 on it, and refuses to install an earlier version. So, after uninstalling, I did yet another reinstall of 7.2.33 and rebooted, but still the same issue. How can I install an earlier version ?
Thanks
Richard

There may be a plist left in your Library folder (it may be the System Library) where either the Application Support or the Preferences have a problematic file. You may have to trash it and then reinstall.

Hello Richard,
I am the Mac programmer for BOINC. Responding first to your second issue:
The BOINC installer specifically does allow installing an older version over a newer version. The alert that appears is only a warning, which says "Installing this software will replace a newer version with an older version." and offers two buttons: Cancel and Continue. Clicking Continue will install the older version.
The most likely explanation for not seeing the Advanced View window is that your BOINC Manager Preferences file may be corrupted, causing the window to be off the edge of the screen. To determine if this is the case:
• Quit BOINC Manager.
• In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu, and select Library.
• A Finder window will now show your user's Library directory. Browse to the Preferences directory within your user's Library directory.
• Move the BOINC Manager Preferences file out of the /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/ directory and onto your desktop. Make sure the file no longer exists in the Preferences directory.
• Launch BOINC Manager (from the Finder's Applications directory.)
If this fixes your problem, please save the corrupted BOINC Manager Preferences file and post the first dozen lines of that file to this thread. (You can view the file with the TextEdit application and copy the lines from there into a forum post.)
If the above procedure did not fix your problem, you may had a corrupted download of the BOINC installer. Try downloading a fresh copy.

Hi Charlie
Thanks for the response. First the good news … the steps you listed above worked just fine, and I now have my Advanced View window back. Here are the first dozen lines or so from that "corrupted file"

Height=0

Second, a comment on the attempt to install an older version …. it was not just a warning on my machine, the continue button was greyed out and I could not continue any further in the install process. However, all is well now, so I am not concerned (although maybe you are !). Thanks for the help !

Richard
