Hi,

this is not an Einstein problem, but I don't know where to post it.:(

well,
i have windows xp prof.
I normally work as a "normal" user without admin-rights.
BOINC (i guess in general) has some problems with that.
For example, I have to start BOINC with "execute as"-->admin(this is not the problem), but then the graphics of all Projects don't work and the screensaver don't work(this is the "problem").
When i am logged in as the admin, and start BOINC then the graphics work.
I know it is not necessary to run the projects, but I like the graphics.:)

Another problem is the autostart thing, when windows starts.
Somehow i can't put BOINC into the autostart of a "normal" user, so that it starts by itself with admin-rights. If i put it into the autostart, then it doesn't work, because it needs admin-rights. So, I have to start BOINC manually all the time. Either that is a BOINC problem, or I just don't know where to change the windows settings.

:)

Maybe somebody is listening who can solve the problem.

Well, as promised, I am

Well, as promised, I am back.

so far i don't like BOINC 4.25, it messes up my whole thing with "normal"user and "admin"user.
If I install 4.25 as "Single-User Installation" then, of course, i can't do that as a normal user. So i have to do it with "execute as"-->admin(this is not the problem). After that, BOINC works as normal. When I restart my laptop, then BOINC doesn't autostart, and I (the normal user) can't start the BOINC manager manually either. It is not running, I checked the Task Manager. Which means, I have to install BOINC every single time I start my PC, which is, of course, unacceptable.

(Same with "Shared Installation", I can't use "Service Installation")

Well, because of all of that, i wanted to change back to the good old BOINC 4.19, but this one doesn't work as before. I guess the installation of the 4.25 messed up everything.

I installed BOINC into D:\\BOINC. As normal user, i can't open this directory anymore. I can't even open it, when i uninstall BOINC.

What can I do?

All i want is, that BOINC starts automatically at the system start when logging in as a normal user without admin rights. THAT'S IT.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your permissions on that folder have gotten messed up.

Log in as a user with administrator rights and bring up the properties for that folder in explorer. Select the "Security" tab, you should see a list of groups in the top part of the dialogue box. Make sure there is an entry which reads "Everyone" in that list - if there isn't (and there almost certainly isn't) add it.

This will also probably cure your problem of BOINC not autostarting.

TTFN - Pete.

hmm, ok. there isn't.
how can i add it????

Well, i copyed the BOINC folder, deleted the "old" one. installed BOINC 4.19 again, and copyed the files into the new folder. Now everything works as it should, but 4.19 and not 4.25.

I tried to reinstall 4.25 again. But it always messes up that permission thing.

well,
I will see how this goes on.

This is a security permissions problem, you have to fix it by hand. Right click on the BOINC directory in windows explorer. Select sharing and security. Click on the security tab. Click the add button. Type Everyone click check names. Hit OK. Click the Modify checkbox. Click OK a few more times.
