Hi,
Just a little prob. I've downloaded 3 Wus and E@H send me 3 H1_xxx files:

Einstein@Home - 2005-02-13 22:38:12 - Started download of H1_0628.9
Einstein@Home - 2005-02-13 22:46:24 - Started download of H1_0466.9
The third file didn't appear in the message tab but appeared in the transfer tab: H1_674.9

It's "hard" with RTC connexion. I had to reset the projet to stop the download.
CC4.19 and 4.79 with 4 days cache, P4 3Ghz HT, XP1

For HT you should have got two workunits. If it was the first yours download, the server did not know what WU you already have (because you didn't have any). So it issued two different files to download. The next time you would have asked for work, you will most probably would not have had any download - just a set of parameters, for which no download is necessary. As the devs say, one such 11mb file would last for approx. a month.

As for the third download - your work cache was set too high, and the client asked for 3 WUs at first, and 3 file downloads were started. You should target the cache to no more that 1-2 days. I personally have my cache set to 0.01 days.

Hi, Well, usually for HT, I

Hi,
Well, usually for HT, I have only one download (the 11 Mb file) and ~10 Wus for a 4 days cache.
I don't know what happened yesterday.
The only thing I changed is that I was connected via FreeProxy instead of a direct connexion.
This morning I connected and the server sent me again the new 4.79 app and 2 WU. No H1_xxx file at all. :o)??
I think you're right about the cache, it's a little too high and I set it to .1 day, but theorically all the Wus should be generated from one H1_xxx file, not several, AFAIK.

One more thought - maybe the data file that your previous WUs used was depleted, a.g. all WUs have already been crunched for it, and there was no longer work for it - so the first scenario that i described happened.

But the devs should overlook this - no matter how much work you ask, you should only get one data file.

Not true. Most of the time, you should have only a small number of data files. However if there are unsent results that are too old, then they will be sent to the first available host, which may then have more than one data file on it. I might modify this feature to only upload 'extra' files to hosts that have high-bandwidth connections.

That would be great, just please set 256kbits as high-bandwidth connection, I want extra files ;o)))

Hi Bruce,
On a similar note, I want to thank you for fixing the "old data files problem".
My Einstein folder went from 560 MB to 76MB after that.
:)

Thanks
Richard
