I have a Pentium D as well and its taking a similar amount of time to process the large GR tasks. On the plus side credits for these tasks are 880, so it all works out...
My pc went off and when I turned it back on, the messages said that it had exceeded what I permitted to give BOINC.
I was in the middle of editing my post when my PC turned itself off to ask how long my partner took to finished Task 376973040....I figure I need 11 days or more...
I don't know what's going on, but my GR Desktop window showed a total of 306 hours when it went into processing yesterday, but now shows only 85 hours, with 20 done and 64 to go. How did that happen? And I'm guessing the time will decrease even further. This never happened to me before.
Since you have a rather slow cpu. Maybe it would better for you to opt out of the FGRP2 search. Witch take a longer time to complete. And do the BRP4 search who has smaller tasks.
It takes +/- 2h om my cpu vs 25h for the FGRP2 tasks.
Probably a good suggestion, but since they sent it to me, I'll stay with what they give me. As long as I'm a private and not a general, I'll clean toilets if that's what the Brains want.
It may be rather slow, but here's 12 tasks that are pending, waiting for my partners on the tasks to complete theirs. If there are two computers assigned to a task for accuracy, doesn't it mean that my old pc is at least as fast or faster than the 12 incomplete tasks to finish?
Not much to worry about, there has been a change in work units last week. In short, BRP4 has been unbundled so you now get 1/8 of the work, while FGRP2 WUs have been bundled to 11x what it was before (although I have received some smaller ones, about half).
The only side effects that matter will be whether the additional time needed to completion will fit within the requirement of 2 weeks. Other than that, estimates on slow crunchers like ours are quite a bit off but will adjust themselves if they complete in time, iow before the deadlines. My slowest cruncher (a year 2000 computer running XP with only 516MB and only one processor) has a few files downloaded according to the previous schedule, and since then receives nothing: there is an estimate for the last one in there at 475 hours! In reality, it will settle down at about 48 hours. My ¨less slow¨ one has a few estimated over 100 hours, but will finish them around the 14 hours mark each.
