i just noticed my machine is working on 15 instances at once.
haven't made any changes. it used to crunch 2 at a time on my single card (.05 GPU)
can't see image?
any idea what's causing this? i'm using lunatics .41 on a Win7 64 machine.
thanks

15 instances on 1 GPU using 0.2 CPU + 0.05 CPU?
)
Two at a time would be 0.5 GPU. Obviously somehow you have managed to tell BOINC to use 20 tasks simultaneously on one GPU.

derp. i did change my settings the other day so i could crunch CPU on my android (school)
and GPU @ home. must have put .05 instead of .5 on the GPU.

Your computers are hidden so we can't actually see what your GPU is and you don't say. Seeing as you can actually run 15 before you run out of GPU memory, running only two at a time is probably going to under-utilise your GPU quite a bit. You should get better performance by running a few more than two. Experiment and see! :-).

Gary.
thanks for that. it's a GTX
)
thanks for that. it's a GTX 670 FTW (2GB VRAM) factory overclocked to 1188Mhz on the core.
should i keep increasing the number of instances till my GPU is at 100% usage?
it sits around 93% with 2 instances (0.5)
with one instance, i think it was in the high 70's
also can i edit my post title? would like to put [solved] to save people some time ;)
RE: ... should i keep

You wont get to 100% and it will be very much a game of diminishing returns. I would think that running about four or five might be about optimum but you really have to try each combination carefully to see what happens. You should also test what effect freeing up a CPU core has as well. If you run 5x, a core will automatically be left unloaded because of the effect of 0.2 CPUs in the crunching resources specs.
If you make a reply to your thread and during the 1 hour editing window, you edit your message, you will also be able to edit the thread title (I believe) :-).

Use the "Post to thread" button to post a new message to the thread and then edit that message, at the top of the editing window you can change the title. This won't work if you use either "Reply" or "Quote" so make sure you use "Post to thread".
thanks for all the responses.

thanks for all the responses. i managed to get it running two (0.5)
but now i can't get it to run three (0.3). i set my @home profile to 0.3
on the GPU. i suspended my client, hit update with no luck.
tried crunching some units and updating. it uploaded the work.
got new work but it's stuck at 0.5 on the GPU. what am i doing wrong?
i have 4 cores free. running seti i found the CUDA cores run best with no CPU work.
my guess is it frees up memory bandwidth to keep the CUDA cores fed.
thanks everyone
RE: ... i set my @home

I'm not sure, but I'm also not sure I fully understand you either :-).
When you talk about setting your @home profile to 0.3, do you mean you changed the GPU utilization factor for BRP apps in your project preferences, or are you perhaps talking about the 'home' venue setting - one of the 4 possible 'venues' your computer can belong to? I presume the former. The value should actually be 0.33 and not 0.3, but I don't know if that is significant. The new setting will be communicated to your BOINC client on the receipt of new work - you said you got new work so that should have happened. Once the new setting is received, it applies to all GPU tasks in your cache of work.
Are you using 'venues' (default, home, work, school) at all? If you are, did you make the preference change in the correct 'venue'?

Gary.

Probably just impatience. The web setting only propagates to your host and takes effect when a new WU is downloaded to your host, not just when you update it.

thank you Gary. i changed the "GPU utilization factor of BRP apps" to 0.33
we'll see how it goes.
"Your preferences have been updated. Client-related preferences will take effect when your computer communicates with Einstein@Home or you issue the Update command from the BOINC client. "
