Since the last upgrade of BoincManager (6.10.36) I have received almost one thousand tasks! More than 70 have started and are left waiting to run!
That seems to be a problem with the BOINC client, not with Einstein. Best set No New Tasks until a reasonable count of tasks is reached before enabling work fetch again.

BOINC v6.10.36 (and .37, come to that) has been withdrawn, in particular for Macs, because of a communications problem. Quite the opposite of the situation here!
Thanks to some sterling work by our esteemed Moderator, Mike Hewson, I've been able to download a copy of the server logs covering Robert's work requests since this problem started. It seems that work requests for his - comparatively modest - GT120 CUDA card are primarily responsible for the excessive number of downloads. I've sent that evidence off to David Anderson, in the hope that the problem can be fixed before the replacement for v6.10.36 is released.
David Anderson asks if you could possibly gather and post an extract from your message log with 'Work Fetch Debug' enabled?
You would need to create a small text file called cc_config.xml: paste these lines into it -

Use your simplest possible text editor, and use ASCII/ANSI text only - not unicode.
Put the file in your BOINC Data folder (I believe it's /Library/Applications Support/BOINC/ on a Mac), and either restart BOINC, or go to the Advanced menu, Advanced view, and click "Read config file". Look in the message log: you should see a whole load of new messages flash past once every minute or so. Let it run for a while - ideally including a request for yet more work! - and then copy a block of the messages here. When you're sick of it, edit that cc_config.xml file to put a 0 (zero) in the middle of that line, then read the file again - that'll reduce the messages back to their normal level.

That's probably not the same 'trouble' as in the OP.
You were notified that three tasks were assigned to your host. You won't normally see any further entries for those tasks, as there is no data transfer involved.
What follows in your log is the downloading of associated semi-static data files, which will be used for (hopefully) many other work units to follow.
Since the download servers are currently a tad stressed, it may take some time until the transfer is finished.
