I retired as a professor from a local Community College in 2014, having taught automotive for nearly twenty years, and I like (among other things) computers. I have moved up to Rockford, IL (USA) into a retirement community that has a wonderful view of the Rock River primarily to get away from the hustle and bustle of where I used to live before I retired. And another benefit is it costs less to live here.
FYI, I presently have three desktop computers all running Linux Ubuntu, they are relatively new PCs. Since I do have my computers on 24/7/365 I chose to give them something to do, like BOINC. Presently I have six GPUs running between my three desktops, and primarily run Einstein GPU BOINC projects full time on the desktops. I first began using BOINC to search SETI, but that project has since been mothballed. I also have chosen Einstein@Home as my primary project, but I have used several others. Yes, there are others that can give more credits, but I'm not a credit hungry "I gotta be 1st" kind of guy. Einstein suites me just fine.
I have a few hobbies which have changed a bit since I retired. I would love to get back into fish aquariums and get a saltwater tank, but I have a restriction on the size of aquarium I can get, so that's on hold. I still like photography (mostly landscapes) and riding my bicycle (not motorcycle), and of course computers and eating out. I have finally quit smoking (for a forth time!), consequently I've put on way too many pounds so I may start to exercise again.
I run Einstein@Home because Einstein is a hero of mine and I believe what he said about gravity waves, theory of relativity, and even black holes (that took a looooonnngg time to prove him correct).
Obviously, the project does have scientific merit and it always has work. I feel that the Einstein project will be here for the long term with a decided sense of purpose about what it is doing. The staff make every effort to look after the needs of the volunteers and they are also very responsive. When problems or malfunctions occur, the project has the funding and resources to deal with them appropriately and professionally.
Therefore, Einstein is my favorite project.
