A post on CPDN Beta says that BOINC 6.2.14 has been downgraded to beta version. The BOINC site recommends BOINC 5.10.45, at least for Linux.

The only exception is Mac command line version.

Must have been right after I upgraded to 6.2.14 this afternoon. Changing back to 5 will be a real pain, since 6 migrates all the data files, so I think I'll wait a while to see what happens.

Apparently the main problem is with Windows Vista (which is exactly the platform that prompted the whole v6 project, so it's a bit of a shame the testing wasn't concentrated there). Doesn't explain why Apple and Linux were pulled too.
There was a v6.2.15 in testing before this happened, so I suggest you wait until you see at least a v6.2.16 before upgrading again.
I'm speculating that one of my computers at home finished a task before this, but I'm not there, so I can only report on my work computers with:
Woohoo! I just FINISHED my first S5R4 task. Other than the time to completion being roughly 8 times longer than estimated (a 'lil oopsie there?) it appears all is going well. On the plus side, I won't be hitting the E@H servers for work constantly after each of my machines finishes it's first one. :-P
After reading the above posts, my curiostity took me to the BOINC page where I discovered that the link in the loudly proclaimed "BOINC 6.2.14 is now the recommended version for all platforms. Upgrade now." takes you to a download for good 'ole 5.10.45. I had to chuckle at the irony of that. ;)

The BOINC 6 uninstaller remigrates the separate data directory to the BOINC directory you set, so it's all in one again. But as said, it's a problem with the detection of the mouse/keyboard action when setting your BOINC to only crunch when idle. It only happens on Vista and it also mostly only happens after a reboot, due to boinctray.exe not being loaded.

Reason # 3756 why I've also not upgraded to Vista on any computer yet, let alone BOINC 6.2. :P
I attended some dog and pony show that M$ was putting on in which they were showing off the last RC of Vista along with the final beta of Office 2007. I know their purpose was to SELL me on both products but I left the event already knowing that I wasn't going to use either until dragged kicking and screaming into it. :P
I don't want to clutter Gary Roberts' ap_info thread with mere praise, so I'll post here that I got having first tangled myself up trying to be clever with my own or edits of Gary's file, that finally just using his file got three of three XP hosts which had been running 4.46 or 4.36 running just fine.
Just a couple of tips:
1. the cleanest way I know to get his file contents with indentation and original spacing is to click the "reply" button to his post, then select the portion between the code tags on the copy in the message box, then cancel out of actually replying.
2. For S5R3 Gary's Windows file is set to run everything with the 4.46 Windows beta files. If your were running something older, chances are Gary included the cross-references to run them on the new files, but you need the actual files, which can be found on the beta page still.

Agreed on both counts - it works perfactly (and I recommended everybody goes for the formatted version, in case they want to edit it later); and you need to grab all the files.
I've made myself a zip package with everything included: presumably others with multiple hosts have done the same. Anybody got any webspace with spare download bandwidth, that could host such a package?

On my AMD Opteron 1210 running Linux predicted time is 2 hours 6 minutes. But it shall take from 15 to 16 hours. BOINC is still 5.10.45, see my post.

Absolutely, PM me and we'll sort it.
Cheers, Mike.
