Tom, yes I couldnt see the logic for a short while, but then it clicked. I suspect though that my problems have been debt related (dont know for sure of course) which I am not competent enough to look into or adjust as you apparently can.

Cheers

I have had exactly the same prob for last 3-4 days on all my projects seti/einstein/lhc/predictor. Getting nothing. Have detached/attached/reset/update. have no work, getting no work

Suddenly about 2 hours ago I was hit with downloads from all 4 of my projects!!!!
Perhaps the Debts have sorted themselves out? HOWEVER what I did notice at the time of success (may have absolutely nothing to do...) was on my Manager I changed "allow new work" to read "No New Work" on 2 projects (cant remember which..) which is, visually, the opposite to what I wanted ie. it now reads "no new work" which means it is allowing new work. Anyway 3-4 days later.

John – Thanks for your confidence in my competency, but since I’m not sure of what your “Long Term Debt” was with your other three projects of seti/einstein/lhc and predictor, it’s a little difficult to prophesize on what took hold of the situation; the depressing of the “No New Work” client button or the detached/attached/reset/update sequence you preformed to clear the ambiguity within your client. Basically, difficult to say really what brought you the good fortunes of additional work units.

Tom ,hope I didnt offend. Didnt mean "you" personally. Poor choice of word, should have said "as one apparently can". I downloaded something called BoincDV (debt viewer?) but it went into Winzip or somewhere, about which I know nothing, and there it stays.
Thank goodness the problem resolved itself.
cheers (no reflection on your competency)
John

Finally, I think I've found

Finally, I think I've found the cause and a (possible) solution.

After exiting and restarting the BOINC client, I spotted the following messages:
01/09/2005 13:23:48||Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted.
01/09/2005 13:23:48||Using earliest-deadline-first scheduling because computer is overcommitted.

The meaning of this is explained here:
http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Computer_is_overcommitted

Basically, it means that E@H is not dl'ing because the deadlines on the other projects' existing units (for other projects) are too close, allegedly. However, there's only two units being worked on, neither of which is anywhere near the deadline. I think it must be looking at the completed units which are backlogged for SETI.

I got around this by suspending my other two projects and instructing E@H to update, and it immediately dl'ed 3 new units. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens when the backlog clears.
