I managed to get through a huge amount of it while simultaneously watching the 2nd Resident Evil movie and doing my son's homework for him. I just hope his history teacher doesn't notice that the British Empire is suddenly founded by flesh eating zombies and distillation.
The zombie connection would seem to explain Black Pudding.

I perhaps remember the British Empire being founded upon distillation ( like all good civilizations ), but I just can't exactly recall the flesh eating zombies.
