Sure it is. Our taps suck the water back up from the sink/basin and put it back into either the tank or the hot cistern ( where for gas systems the heat energy is used to keep the flames warm ).
Cheers, Mike.

I call them C for Continental and F for Fashionable. But for taps we have H & C or red & blue, but hot is always on the left and cold on the right whatever you label them. Who decided that?
Good morning everyone!! It's windy here and will be in the 50'sF for most of the day today, right now though it's only in the upper 30's!! Kathryn PLEASE stop sending that stuff my way, we want Spring too!!!
I reckon those explanations are a load of old toffee! Look, if you were designing a sink or a basin from scratch you would realise first that most people are right handed, so as most people prefer to wash in warm water, they fill the container with cold water first, then top up with hot water to the desired temperature. Hence it makes sense to have the cold tap on the right. Hand pumps may also have been on the right, but that is irrelevant.
All older UK toilets with overhead cisterns had the pull chain on the right facing the appliance. This was for the simple reason that you didn't pull the chain whilst still sitting on it!* You stood up, rearranged your apparel, turned around and pulled the chain, usually with the right hand. Thomas Crapper would confirm that if he was still alive, Sanitary ware history. Now you know where the famous phrase comes from !!
The low level toilet suites of today also have flush levers on the right for the same reason. Most of the recent low level toilet suites now have central buttons on the cistern with two halves for a full or half flush, which negates all this nonsense anyway.

@mikey So it's the right handed peoples fault then? :)
Yup...remember back in the Middle Ages, and earlier, being left handed was a sign of the Devil and kids often had their hand bound if they tried to use their left hand instead. Back then God was responsible for everything that happened and anything that was 'different' was the work of the Devil and therefore discouraged!! Those people even made human sacrifices to make the rain fall, or to stop the rain if it was flooding!! I am NOT making ANY reference to whatever people do today, that is NOT part of this reasoning of why the hot water is on the left.

Quote:
It is popularly thought that Mr. Crapper invented the W.C., and that the vulgar word for faeces is a derivative of his name, but neither belief is true.
However, etymologists attest that the American word, "crapper", meaning the W.C. is directly from his name. He relentlessly promoted sanitary fittings to a somewhat dirty and sceptical world and championed the 'water-waste-preventing cistern syphon' in particular. Indeed, he invented the bathroom showroom and displayed his wares in large plate glass windows at the Marlboro' Works. This caused quite a stir and it is said that ladies observing the china bowls in the windows became faint at this shocking sight!
