A co-worker last year who

A co-worker last year who lasted a total of three shifts on the third was falling asleep standing up. If I hadn't have seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me.

He was so tired he forgot his wallet so I got him a tram ticket to get home.

Well I'm back. Now in

Well I'm back. Now in glorious National Broadband Network ( NBN ) connection status. It turns out that while, yes, I am on a Fibre To The Node ( FTTN ) facility, the setup I should have used ( as described on the server that I couldn't then reach ) indicated that I should have used the VDSL ( what ? ) algorithm instead, that which is applicable in some areas. Instead of the FTTN line of setup. But I am a happy chap. We used to download at 3 SOOS* & we are now at 85 SOOS!

However, with one thing & another, I have done an online Grumpy Old Man test to see how I am progressing. My results were scored as within the 'significantly credible' category. However that is still 4 rungs below something they loosely call the 'Chris S Benchmark' ( CSB ). Some sort of gold standard apparently. I have no idea what that reference means .... :-))

As for 'Winter Assembly' ? DownUnda all our seasons just turn up once a year. I didn't know they had to be made specially.

Various Lilydales I have found in Victoria & Illinois obviously, but also New South Wales, Tasmania, Canada, New York, Montana and maybe South Georgia Island ( but might be a reference to a flower's name ). I thought that South Georgia only had semi-frozen birds on it ...... I can't imagine any lilies growing in any dales there.

From my limited knowledge of pole dancing ( I myself have never seen a case... ) I believe the correct statement is "it will all end in tears". However my sources don't disambiguate b/w 'tears' as a watery eye discharge vs. tissue injury triggering later herniae.

Pardon me for drooling at home made mint cookies. At work we have sunk to the new low of a coffee vending machine, just installed on Friday. At $2 per cup, for any selected variety, I'd guess that the word 'coffee' is undergoing a redefinition here. To forestall your angst/suspense : I may spend a coin tomorrow to find out. Maybe not. I'll first check that our resuscitation cubicle is properly fit to come into play. Emergency drugs ..... check. Endotracheal tube ..... check. Full bottle of oxygen ..... check. Prayerwheel ..... check. Funny clear plastic right angle connector that no-one quite knows what it's for ..... check. Rapidly inflatable scarey doctor for treatment of hiccups ..... check. Defib machine for when the patient is actually dead, but we are bored and like to see the twitches .... check. Realtime webcam link to the Coroner's Court ..... check. Nitrous oxide aka 'laughing gas' for the aprè resus party ..... check.

Cheers, Mike.

SOOS* = Something Or OtherS

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Well of course it's gold if it's to do with me :-)))

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)

Why do doctors have to practice?
You'd think they'd have got it right by now

For the SOOS stuff you want a LARGE B not a little b, ie MBps, not Mbps. The difference is that the LARGE B represents 8 of the little b's. Think of a little b as a space a letter an anything, so if you get 85 Mbps it's MUCH slower than 85 MBps. The whole thing means 'M for mega, bits for a little b or Bytes for a LARGE B, per for the p and second for the s, so Mbps means mega bits per second.

LOL. That's a Pygmy Possum

LOL. That's one sort of Pygmy Possum that lives in alpine country and eats mostly moths/grubs/etc. With those rotating type ears they are very good at localising even soft sounds. As you can see they are powered by static electricity ......

{ Healesville Sanctuary has a captive breeding program. }

I think our SOOS = Mbps ie. small 'b'. Anyway it is 85/3 ~ 30 times faster now.

Cheers, Mike.

Less than 2000 what left? Pens, goats, wallabys, koalas, blue whales, sharks, dolphins, astronauts?

Pygmy Possums in the wild.

Pygmy Possums in the wild. It's an estimate from surveys/sightings. But it is in a highly specialised niche and one has to be careful about causative claims. The interesting question is whether it was on the way out anyway ie. prior to any humans that counted it. Personally I don't go with the latest social presets ie. Nature::good = Man::bad. For example the Galapagos finches that Darwin described are no more marginal now than they were then. The blending of ecological science with social commentary ( with buffing up and insertion into the media toolsets of the moment ) has done tremendous damage to many earnest conservation efforts in Australia. I donate my money direct to the groups that do the hands on work.

Now I'm drinking the coffee from the machine AND emitting this post. So far, so good then.

Cheers, Mike.
