Now what's this I see on the table setting ? Tea pots, cups & saucers and - gosh do my eyeballs deceive me - a bendy spoon. Has Mr Uri Geller visited ?
Dear punters I will shortly post a link to a video of a fun piece of my life. For you to enjoy watching. Specifically me sitting in the passenger harness of a state of the art racing car going like zee clappers, eh what ? A good friend of mine is a pro racing driver and is currently on the BMW factory team for GT races S.E. Asia etc. Although he does do Spa and Le Mans sometimes. For sponsors and hanger-ons like me there are 'ride days' whence one can be driven at break-neck speed on a track hired for the day ( Sandown Raceway in Melbourne ). Just because mainly. He drives the latest M6 - V8, almost all carbon fibre body, massively solid cage, around $600K AUD plus change. It brakes like you would not believe. About 2.5G at the end of the straight, so one's chin ( helmet, HANS device but no tether ) goes whack on the upper sternum. Epic. From a mere 260+ km/h. Cornering is a mere 1.7G laterally. As I was told to touch nothing I put my hands b/w my thighs ( taking care not to disturb the five-point harness buckle, ahem ). There is suspension, but not as we know it folks. Like real stiff and you feel it all eg. ripple strips are for running over and who cares if only two wheels are used sometimes. At first all I could do was look at the bonnet but after 1/2 lap I figured I may as well look outside while numerous speedy bits of the world go past. Three hot laps in all. As soon as you get back to pits the door is opened and they take your photo. Everyone likes to "see the faces" ! At that point you can really smell the hot brakes. He tells me we were only about 3 seconds/lap off race pace - old roaded tyres, high octane but mere public bowser fuel ( not Elf @ $7 per litre ! ) - so he brakes some 50m earlier than usual. Like I'd know .....
{ You have to get in and out via a trapezoidal gap in the cage. Some needed assistance. I bravely slid out feet first then pretended to be capable of standing around casually. His wife told me not to be silly ( way, way too late on that point ) & sit down like everyone else needs to ..... :-) What physical fitness these drivers have. }
Then I had a Gatorade. Coffee was not appropriate. Racing suit quite unsullied though.
Cheers, Mike.
( edit ) Believe it or not : for some races ( handicapping involved ) the engine needs to be de-tuned so as to keep the power-to-weight below a threshold. Not on that day though. After all it has extra ~100kg lumps to carry.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...
... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal
Betreger - with post #53, you are our winner, sir. For you alone, a perplexing fight for the podium can be left to others. ;-)
Congratulations and PM will be with you post-haste.
In closing, it remains for me to thank all those who have appeared in the thread. It has been an enjoyable experience. :-) One I hope to repeat someday.
Aaah. One more thing - welcome back, Mr Hewson. :-) A video of your latest activities is eagerly anticipated.
