...where "emotional" is actually merely "passionate about it being done right"...
And that's the rub, isn't it? As you have encountered through countless postings on various fora, just exactly what is "right"? "Right" is a concept of (controversial) opinion; the dilemma is to convince everyone else that your "right" is more acceptable than their "right". That's a hard sell since others are just as passionate as you. ;-)
OK, after reading over everything since I posted last, we have come full circle (again) and are right back where we started! :-D
So, if the consensus is that there is no hope to have CPP which is viable and not unduly burdensome outside of the context of any single given project:
Then which production project is going to be the first stop exporting public stat xml's, since they invite one to one comparison of the projects using a metric unsuitable for that purpose?
Next, which production project is going to be the first to drop publishing the local stats and rankings? To do so implies that a least common denominator approach has be taken to evaluate how much work is contained in the tasks being run, when that may or may not be the case.
I think it has been demonstrated that setting the basis to any particular current active 'host' inherently disadvantages any less capable host if the stock app uses platform specific optimization if available by default. Further, if you are going to set the basis on anything other than work done, then even local credit has no meaning except in the context of the individual host.
Finally, I think it has been fairly well demonstrated that we seem to be getting further away from the 'ideal' set in the definition of the Cobblestone with every iteration of the credit system.
In answer to the question of the relative importance of credit in the first place; Well, it has to have some value to a sizable number of people, otherwise there wouldn't be the slashdotting of projects when team and individual competitions are announced and other effects like that.
Secondly, there wouldn't be the uproar created when even the smallest change is made which effects RAC in any way shape or form. I can even begin to estimate the number of first time posters who pop in and say, "Gee, my RAC dropped a point, what's wrong?".
So call me a Kredit Kop. If by that you mean when you make a definition for something, then the system which implements that definition needs to do exactly that, and if it's doesn't then it's broken, so be it. I'll take that as a compliment! :-)
If it turns out that the ideal is 'impossible', then drop it and everything else which is derived from it. That's only being honest with yourself! ;-)
I keep wondering why everyone with a different opinion needs to be put into a group and that group needs to have a (preferably negative sounding) name.

Well, we could call you the "Cheerful Credit Clown" if you want... ;-P

Why?
Let me repeat myself (nothing new).
For all I care all those credits everyone managed to get one way or the other are collected today and ceremoniously burned. Or shot to the sun. They only cause trouble, so why have them? They don't add anything to the BOINCperience.
Then again, the same can be said of money, religion, work and mothers in law. Not saying we should gather all mil's and burn them!

Hmmm... I think an image for you would be (the most "kid-friendly" I could find of this, not to mention good for a transparent background color):
