Here's some GoPro footage (

Here's some GoPro footage ( is there nothing they can't do ? ) from a portion of the Falcon 9 fairing after discard. If anyone doesn't understand the Blue Danube reference then I'd be happy to explain. I was hoping to see a ball point pen rotating in view !! :-)

Cheers, Mike.

Ah yes! "Wheel" rotating

Ah yes! "Wheel" rotating into frame from upper left to fill screen. As a youngster I remember going to the only Cinerama theater in DC to see this film. Watching this SpaceX piece and listening to that musical score took me back to a different time. Stanley would have approved.

I totally agree. Misters

I totally agree. Misters Kubrick & Clarke would be whooping in sheer delight over recent SpaceX activities. Their visionary thinking would fit right in with Mister Musk like hand to glove, all with grins so wide as to fit a banana sideways. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

A web site not known to me

A web site not known to me called ExtremeTech has posted a news story asserting that there is a planned cargo launch by SpaceX this Sunday meant to include another drone ship landing attempt. Most of the news story is just a rehash of the attempts to date.

I'm a little surprised not to spot news of this elsewhere if it is for real. Any opinions?

I follow SpaceX Stats which I believe is an un-affiliated site run by fans of SpaceX and Mr Musk. I don't know where they get their information but it's been quite right thus far. The upcoming launches page is helpful with the specific launch mentioned here.

I think another attempt at a 1st stage landing is implied, but I vaguely recall that being a land return and not to the drone ship. I think that was proposed after the last RUD. Probably SpaceX is not wanting to ramp up expectations again. UTC of 14:21 puts it just after midnite DownUnda ( ie. early Monday of the 29th for me ). I'll be up and watching ! :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I see another article, giving specific times and even a video link for a launch involving attempted return this Sunday.

It appears to say that if the launch proceeds as planned, the NASA video stream visible at

http://www.ustream.tv/NASAHDTV

will turn to the SpaceX launch at 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 28, with liftoff scheduled for 10:21 ET (I presume these are EDT times). This stream appears to be often or even constantly active, but sometimes quite boring PR stuff.

The page is specific in asserting this to be another barge (not land) recovery attempt. Of course it could be mistaken in that.

Jeez Louise ! Absolutely ! Thanks for sharing that. In under a minute it transitions to subsonic and then lands with a gentle nudge. That puts the task in good perspective and makes the ...... nearly, nearly, nearly .... bit all the more impressive.

Cheers, Mike.

and another article with unseen footage from the previous failed recovery effort can be seen HERE.

Wow! It is moving, everything looked great. I'll blame the oceanic swells.

This article says a new drone ship will be used called "Of course I still love you.".

[EDIT} OOPs looks like I stepped on AgenB's post. sorry about that.

The goal, SpaceX wrote, was not to "just to produce cool videos" but to "radically reduce the cost of accessing space by producing a fully and rapidly reusable rocket system."

Touche ! :-) :-)
