For several weeks now folks on the NASASpaceflight.com discussion forums have been chewing on strange pictures of things emerging from the sands of Boca Chica Texas (on the coast, very, very near the southernmost point, not far from Brownsville).
At first the few who supposed anything remotely related to flight hardware was involved were mocked, with serious consideration given to the notion that a water tower was being built.
Almost everyone now agrees the strange bits and pieces are going to get put together and fly. It is clearly related to the SpaceX SuperHeavy/Starship (formerly BFR) project. The remarkable things are how fast it is going together, and how rough-and-ready are the assembly methods and finished results.
Enough of my words. If this remotely interests you go look at the pictures here:
Or if you want to wade through hundreds of posts of debate and edification, some of it actually quite well-informed, then the discussion thread is here:
Here is an update on the Boca Chica Monster, more often called BFH, for Big Falcon Hopper.
In the last week, shiny stainless steel got applied over most of the surfaces which were not shiny before, panels filled in the legs so they now can be fins, and fairings were added to the legs/fins.
Finally, just a few hours ago, all three of the major pieces were stacked. Here is a down-sampled copy of a photo taken today posted by bocachicagal at nasaspaceflight.com.
Pulsar J0002 was discovered in 2017 by a citizen-science project called Einstein@Home, which uses time on the computers of volunteers to process Fermi gamma-ray data. Thanks to computer processing time collectively exceeding 10,000 years, the project has identified 23 gamma-ray pulsars to date.
Japan's Hayabusa2 space probe is set to start descending toward an asteroid in about two days on a new mission to create an artificial crater on its surface.
Hayabusa2 has been observing the asteroid Ryugu, about 340 million kilometers from Earth.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, says the probe will make the world's first attempt to create an artificial crater on an asteroid and study its interior.
Hayabusa2 is scheduled to start its descent from 20,000 meters above Ryugu at around 1 p.m. Thursday, Japan time.
