I've now taken the plunge and updated my Intel HD4000 to the latest driver provided by Intel on their download site. It's version 10.18.10.3621.
Boinc reports the following:

First tasks has completed and validated so I'd say this driver is working. Previous attempts at upgrading has resulted in tasks crashing on startup with 0xc0000135 error code.
As to speed with the new driver it's hard to say but it wasn't slower than the slowest task before but not that fast either. I'll have to monitor this in the coming days.
A big thanks to Richard for providing the installer for my previous driver so I had a way to back down again if this didn't work out!
