Thanks for noticing this for

Thanks for noticing this for me. I found out myself just now. Only problem is that I see a lot of users saying heat sinks don't really work for RPi. Would you happen to know if there are any that work?

Thanks.

I don't own any devices like

I don't own any devices like the Pi so have no experience. A quick check with google came up with lots of results from people who do. I particularly liked some of the thermal images showing the hot spots. A simple fan blowing air over those spots should provide some benefit even without sinks.

A heat sink of itself without adequate air flow is not going to do much, especially if the device is inside a close fitting case. If the device is not constrained by the enclosure, a sink with tall fins over which you can create an airflow would work well. Another solution might be a case designed to be the heat sink itself. This would be quite elegant, but probably expensive if properly designed.

Your best option is to research (with a fairly jaundiced eye) what others claim to have done, remembering the basic principle that a heat sink just stores heat and only creates cooling if there is a workable method of transferring that stored heat to somewhere else.

Cheers,
Gary.

The Pi2 run quite a bit

The Pi2 run quite a bit hotter than the old Pi. I have mine running at stock and have copper heat sinks on the SoC (System on a Chip). I drilled a 60mm hole in the top of one case. The idea was to put a fan on the top of the case but its curved so became difficult. It seems to work fine with a fan grill over the hole. My other two are running topless.

I used to have regular lockups when overclocked but since dropping them back to stock they run for weeks.

You can find the heat sinks on eBay. Search for something like "Pi Overclockers Kit". Avoid the ones with the case and tiny fan - they die quickly and also make noise.

If you haven't done so already you'll find putting the wisdom file on them will make things go faster. It also makes them hotter. Details are in the rather long Parallella and Raspberry Pi thread at the top of this message board.

I had a pair of heat sinks

I had a pair of heat sinks but the adhesive thermal whatever that was on it got messed up, so I doubt it would stay there.
