You should now be able to allow EAH to be unsuspended. I notice you have already aborted one "close to the deadline" result. You can repeat that later on if it really becomes necessary. I imagine this new BOINC is going to put on a bit of a performance when it wakes up and notices just how much work you have given it to manage :). It's an excellent opportunity to see how good the new scheduling stuff in 5.x.x is compared to 4.xx. You may get some messages in your logs that might be of interest to the Wiki people (Paul D Buck).
I'm planning to slag the old version once my current WU finishes (~90m). Unless the eah algorythm itself's been optimized I can't see a meaningful gain. I'm not running any other projects, and it's already getting >97% of my cpu time.
Yes, you are correct - there's no meaningful gain as far as crunching is concerned. It's just that it would be nice to see 5.2.7 being reported as the version of BOINC on this result rather than having to wait for the next one :).
I note your comment about the service install failing. As you are the only user on your box, do you have yourself setup for a passwordless login? If you try to install as a service and you don't have a password, the install will fail. Is this the failure you mention by any chance?
This failure is caused by the null password not being able to be handled. What you can do is immediately start the install again and select the "repair" option. Your service install will be repaired with the owner of the service becoming the local system account, bypassing the passwordless you as the service owner.

Single user, but with a password. I've been graduated for 2 years and had a private room for 3 more, but am still largely keeping a dorm level lockdown.
Do I need to do a reboot during the un/reinstall process because I'm still reporting 4.45 and downloaded annother three work units this morning, despite doing the un/reinstall process last night.

Dan,
What version does it say in the Messages tab? In the messages, the very first line should list the version of Boinc.
All you should have to do is to go to the Projects tab, select one and click "update", go down the line and do the same for each project.

4.45. Update didn't appear to do anything except download two more wu's I'm going to end up aborting because I can't complete them before the deadline.
The 12th??? Did you not shut down Boinc entirely, as in right-clicking on the stylized B icon on the lower right (taskbar) area and selecting Exit when doing the install/upgrade? Please, if you did not shut it down entirely, do so now, and upgrade again, uninstall/reboot/install, etc. Or am I misunderstanding? Did you do the upgrade way back on the 12th?

Michael

I've been otherwise occupied and I've only just been able to have a look back here to see what is happening.
1. Are you absolutely sure that nothing was still running before you tried the uninstall/reinstall?
2. You don't need a reboot normally but this time do the sequence this way - uninstall/reboot/reinstall
3. Are you sure you nuked the home preference for host_venue in both client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml?
4. Check them both again and see if the definition is back. If it is change the word "home" to "default" in both places while BOINC is not running.
5. Do you start BOINC Manager and it then starts the BOINC daemon? If so you should see a series of startup messages that can't possibly be dated 12 NOV. Your report about that leads me to believe that somehow there was still a daemon running that prevented the reinstall and probably preserved the host_venue definition of "home". If you did change it as requested and it's now back, that's all I can think of.

Gary,
That's just what I was getting at - the upgrade wouldn't "take" if any module of boinc was still running. The 12th thing was the missing clue, I think.

I'll add that that line is dated the 12th, and the contents of the messagelog has survived 2 attempts to update to the new version.
I'm about ready to nuke it with deltree, will I have to go fishing in the registry as well to do a manual uninstall?
