Well, there you go! In fact Feynman did say something along those lines regarding string theory ie. being unguided by experiment. And the lack of concern about that by the theorists themselves. I now cringe a bit every time I see Michio Kaku do a promo on Discovery Channel - it's all sounding a bit lame now. The LHC, Higgs or no Higgs, won't be saving string theory.
