My wife and I recently returned from a cruise on the RCL ship Anthem of the Seas. During the voyage I stumbled upon a series of talks given by Peter Watson. These enrichment lectures were given in the 270 lounge at the aft end of the ship. His first lecture was "Where does the gold in your wedding ring come from?" Of course, this was a talk on the Type 1A supernova. I was walking the ship when, by chance, I saw the periodic table on the big screen, and it caught my attention. I made a point to schedule his next two lectures.
The second lecture was on gravitational waves created by the merger of neutron stars, and the third discussed the subject of time travel. I will need to pay more attention the the event calendar next time out. Each lecture was about an hour, and was time very well spent.
