so i should just let it run

Message 11970 in response to message 11969

so i should just let it run and it'll sort itself out?
You can either just let it run and sort it out

ok, i just let it run,. hoping it would sort itself out, but it didn't. at one point my client went into panic mode, processing the 2 einstein units first. then, for the next 8 days or so, it kept seti and predictor running, to catch up on their share of the CPU time. now it has reactivated einstein, and downloaded 2 units again. those won't finish on time unless the client goes into panic mode again, and the whole crap will start again, and again. and again...

an einstein unit takes about 48 hours of CPU time on my system, for 2 units that would be 4 days. now consider that einstein gets only 40% of my free CPU time (40% for predictor and 20% for seti), it's not rocket science to see that the deadline (1 week) is too tight.

now the question is, what can i do? it would be ideal if i could restrict it to one unit at a time. is that possible?
Reduce your cache size. Mine is at 0.1 days, and things are working fine. I still have a few projects that will drive my CPUs into EDF, (two shh projects are particularly troublesome), but Einstein still drives three of my slower crunchers into EDF.

trying to get a further

trying to get a further understanding of this EDF thing..........from reading, the Wiki states that this mode is entered when..to completion time for the current WUs is equal or greater than 50% of the time to the first deadline. Or maybe it was 80...never-the-less....I don't have a problem with that, sounds like a good idea..

except that I seem to always be in EDF mode.....overcommitted.

here's what I've got going.

I'm running E@H and LHC, total to completion time = 27hrs for two WUs, one for each project. Use 0.08 connection time.

The closest deadline is the E@H on 07/10 6ish days away! I have plenty of time, what's up with being in EDF overcommitted mode???

any insight?

again, running BOINC 4.45, with two projects, and 0.08 day caache so not to have very many units in queue......

I don't know matt. It looks

I don't know matt. It looks like you should not be in EDF mode from the information you have given. The only thing I can think of is it just appears to be in EDF because there are no LHC workunits available.

is kinda confusing to me

is kinda confusing to me tooo, there was a small period of time where I was in normal mode, but I don't know what is different now, and before that small time, I was also in EDF more often than not.

LHC has got some WU for the time being.

Am gonna try suspending the running E@H unit, to see if that kicks off the LHC one, and then see what happens when I unsuspend the E@H unit.

tried that idea.......as

tried that idea.......as expected the LHC unit started, let it run a bit, then exited and restarted BOINC to see what mode it would enter.

seems to still show as computer being overcommitted, even though the total to completion time is now down to 16hrs, with nearest deadline on the tenth.

mystery to me....

things are running though, so, it's not a biggy, am curious to see if the whole "debt" thingy works if it's gonna crunch the E@H to completion first. Assuming it'll then start on the LHC before downloading another E@H.

we'll see.

Can you post the error message that you get and what kind of computer are you running.....
