I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. a link to the akosf site would be a start. Then I need to know if there's more than one version I need to d/l because I have these 2 machines.
1. 500mhz celeron running winme
2. 2.4gig celeron running winxpSP2
Thanks. All I need is a link and those 2 questions answered.

hMM...ok. On this machine it doesn't have winzip just powerdesk. What now?
Re Powerdesk: righ click on zip file in powerdesk and a menu will open.
mouse down to Powerdesk and choose extract.
This will extract files into same location as the original
zip file. (You may also choose to extract it to another
sub directory, if you choose.)

It says 'error in archive directory' after I d/l app C41.02.
What do I do now?

if you d/load and run cpuz on each of your pc`s it will tell you what it supports
you will see it on the cpu page it will say something like
prosesser name "amd athlon" code name "thunderbird"
ect ect then it will say instructions
this will tell us/you what your cpu supports i.e mmx(+)3dnow(+)
(taken from my own pc)
and we can tell you which app to d/load for each one
When I try to d/l again it just patches me right thru to winzip again which is totally useless. This stuff is why I gave up trying to do this 6 weeks ago........

If your p4 supports ss3, get the latest Uxx app, if not use the Sxx app.
For the celeron, if it has SSE1 also use the Sxx app. If not the Cxx app.

Your No. 1 is good for C-line, it will increase speed 2 - 3 times,
No. 2 has most probably SSE2 set and S-optim. can be used
(increase approx. 4x).
WinZip: you can get trial version here: www.winzip.com

We are talking about just the AKosf app right? I don't want the trux boinc client.
this machine uses MMX
I d/l winzip and it says it doesn't recognize C41.02 as a zip file. When I look at the file it is a zip file though!
Wondering why this is so hard.....
