Thanks - that would be helpful (and if anyone else reading this can chip in too - thanks).
You might also watch out for the file 'coproc_info.xml' in the BOINC data directory after startup, and keep it safe somewhere - any additional questions could be answered there, instead of carting the card back and forth.
FWIW, the value displayed by SIV seems compatible with the value shown in Wikipedia for the GeForce 10 Series.

Another oddity at B&H is that they appear to have a price error on the EVGA 1070 Founders card. In any event it is over $600.
After reviewing the nowinstock history information for the 1080, my current plan is to try to order a 1070 from NewEgg on Friday. If they do something like their 1080 pattern, they will not do a simultaneous landrush enabling of all brands at the opening moment, but instead enable limited number ordering brand by brand through the day. I'd prefer to order from Amazon, but their 1080 history does not give me good hope of placing a first day order there successfully.
The joke will be on me if cheaper quieter, and possibly faster partner cards are available very quickly on the 1070 (as they have not been on the 1080) but I'm eager so see how this thing works, and have at least one location for which the case exhaust fan configuration seems prudent.
Unfortunately my friend forgot the card so another day before I can get it back into the computer. (might have been the brandy and cigars they had last night, lol)
There is a fresh driver available today, which is not only stated to be suitable for both 1080 and 1070, but also for the older families going back several generations.
That does not specifically address Zalster's concern about mixed boxes, but it seems prudent to start by using that driver.
If nothing else, it says they have made a change which defeated an undesired fan speed variation widely reported by 1080 users, at least in some of the cases.

Motherboard works fine,#9 on top computers at Seti
Moved cards around on the board and all the slots work.
Both Boinc and SIV saw the 1080, but I didn't bother to memorize anything about what they said about the card since no one had asked.
Dave is said to have one running here on Einstein, you might ask him.
Just in case he hasn't responded by tomorrow, I should have that card back and installed to see what BOINC says about it.

It appears that at the moment that file was built something in your system was recognizing a mix of one 1080 and three Titan X cards as desired.
Did you do something specific to solve the previous problem? Is it possible the new driver which claims to support both was the answer?

Hi Archae,
Yes I installed the newest driver from Nvidia website.
It appears to have resolved the issue with the previous gen GPUs in the same machine.
It also appears to have improved performance of the card.
It looks to be several minutes faster than the first time I tested it. Not huge, but in long term crunching, does means several more units per day
So apparently the notion of

So apparently the notion of the GTX1080 launch drivers supporting only that card was very true.
