Apparently I made a mistake when publishing it; with Apps 4.33 "officially" downloaded the graphics application isn't recognized as such by the client and thus the graphics doesn't work there.

I'll re-release the same App as 4.37 in a few hours in a way that should fix the problem. Don't worry if you're still running 4.33, it's the very same code.

The problem persists even with 4.37. I'm investigating. As a quick fix typing
[pre]
sudo chmod +x /Library/Application\\ Support/BOINC\\ Data/projects/einstein.phys.uwm.edu/einstein_S5R3_4.37_graphics_i686-apple-darwin
[/pre]
in a terminal should work. I guess the same is true for the current official Linux App, though even fewer people will notice.

For the moment I'd say leave the app_info.xml in place; removing it will terminate all task in progress with a Client Error.

Removing the app_info.xml is all we need to do, correct? No other steps?

Best to set the project to “No new tasks, and when the current work is all done Update to get your results reported and cleared from the Tasks pane. Quit BOINC completely, remove the app_info file, relaunch BOINC and allow new E@h tasks again.

Changing horses in midstream, so to speak, can confuse BOINC about what app it’s supposed to use, causing computation errors. The above procedure makes sure of a clean break.

Ok, this should be fixed for 4.37 (and 4.31, too) for new Apps downloaded from now on.

Well, I did not get the power

Well, I did not get the power PC version to work ...

I did follow the directions and re-ran the BOINC installer and then checked the permissions on the applications and to the best of my ability to validate correctness, they were correct.

Note: This is a brand new Mac Pro with 8 cores and 10G RAM and 2.38 TB RAID 5 array as the boot drive. Don't know if any of this is relevant.

Still waiting on the G5 to finish up with its two WU and then will try the app over there again.

I have a longer log and the files AS MODIFIED set aside if anyone at the project wants them send me a note and I will send them to you ...

Oh, and I run Leopard on both system ... not sure if anyone else has got this super app to work to work under Leopard.

The abbreviated log looks like:

Oh, the version numbers on

Oh, the version numbers on the beta page are wrong, and there are 4 files not 3 in the zip ... Small details I suppose, but, hard to follow directions if they are wrong ...

Hi! OK, seems like your

Hi!

OK, seems like your PowerPC Mac is now crunching fine, but for the Mac Pro you'll need the Intel MacOS , not the PowerPC version of the app. Your last debug output showed signs that the MacPro was choking on the PPC version of the app.

However, the best available app is already the official app for Intel MacOS, so on the MacPro you will want to remove the app_info.xml altogether to force BOINC to reload the official app.

Also you might want to check your preferences whether your current settings make optimal use of the Mac Pro. There is a setting "On multiprocessor systems, use at most X CPUs," and for optimal crunching results you could set this value as high as 8.
