Sarge is correct in that to crunch 2 units together you need either a dual core processor, or a P4 with Hyperthreading enabled.
I assume you are talking about your P4 3 ghz which is only showing 1 cpu. Somehow the HT has been turned off. You need to go into the bios and re-enable it. This Intel utility might be useful.
