RE: What

What about

halpintomacy - the name of a ..errmmm.. certain *establishment* advertising ..ummm.. *services* for the physically disabled,

or

halpintomacy - seemingly being muttered by a shop-till-you-dropaholic on the sidewalk outside a certain department store on xmas eve just before closing,

or was it just

alphitomancy - diving the future, not with postage stamps, but after watching a certain old Michael Caine movie?

Well, if you were going for a joke there, I don't get it, even after running through Michael's filmography at imdb. However, unlike high school math classes, in this thread you don't have to arrive at the right answer in the proper way, you just have to get there. And you have, whether you know it or not.

The actual definition of alphitomancy is divining the future through barley.

When Mike said philatomancy, it was so close I thought he was right... until I went back and checked the email I got it from.

PM coming.

Didn't you ever see Alfie? :-).

Also, sorry for the typo - diving was meant to be divining :-(.

You should have let this round ride a bit longer. Mike is already showing severe withdrawal symptoms ... :-).

New round coming right up.

Edit: I hope it lives up to the high standards of the first word - hard to tell when Mike is holding a gun at your head, muttering, "This had better be good, or ..."

Cheers,
Gary.

:)))))))))))))))))) Well... thlapica-onmy face with a dead fish. My education clearly has a rather LARGE hole in it... *peer at hole* ... for which I am now looking for someone to sue. Barley divining? Greek to me *sniff* ... oh look... *roll eyes* ... it was ... *tip bag of barley over David* there :) divine that... good word though :)

Well done Gary!! :)

edit for attack of remorse: *change mind and... leave* :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Talk about Irony. Well I

Talk about Irony. Well I predicted the past ie. on the most prior post but that it would be a fluke. But on the down side that set of letters went plop. But it had a good run. Of course I had no idea whatsoever about the one letter shift from philatomancy .... LOL

So the reasonable question is - is this sort of thing likely to happen often with this game ? Is there some sort of Infinite Improbability Drive installed around here ? :-) :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

I don't think I've ever before seen someone guess so close to the right answer and be wrong. Well, maybe once. At Seti we did have a case where a player came up with a legitimate word that was not the one the poster had in mind.

Or maybe it was twice...
