The last person with this problem had to uninstall to fix the problem. That is probably extreme. There is probably a way to configure the firewall so that E@H works, unfortunately I couldn't begin to guess what that might be.
The window's firewall should not be a problem with the default settings, I use it on three machines with no problems.

Mark,
I speak from experience here. I had an issue with the Windows firewall several months ago when I temporarily turned off Norton Internet Security to check out a similar problem that I was having with a different program (not BOINC). Apparently, when I switched off NIS, the Win firewall turned itself on and I did not realize it. This turned my troubleshooting into a "wild goose chase" until I finally stumbled on the fact that it was on. The Windows firewall does a good job, but it works silently (without alerting you). The only point I am making here is that it could be an issue for Stephen if he assumed (like I did) that it was off.
I know you said your firewall is off but it sure looks like a firewall issue to me. Are you running Win XP by any chance? And are you also running a third party firewall? If so, check to make sure the Windows firewall isn't the problem. Sometimes the Windows firewall will turn itself on if you turn off a third party firewall.

I have closed the firewall, no password problem that I can tell, even tried changibg the password, I have no problems browsing with the machine.
What is the error code in the returned message? If it's 500, you may have run into that problem... and it wouldn't be surprising to see it hit one of five PCs, it seems to be very random, possibly somehow related to the number of routers and switches and things between your PC and your ISP...
I do not see an error code.
The message if get on the attach to project screen is, "Project not found The URL you supplied is not that of a BOINC-based project, Please check the URL and try again."
In the message field I get
Fetching config info from http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu couldn't resolve hostname[einstein.phys.uwm.edu]
couldn't resolve hostname[yahoo.com]
couldn't reolve hostname[google.com]
The section I bolded is the key to your problems. I believe that this is indicitive of some sort of connection problem. If BOINC can't get through to a project, it will try yahoo and google to sort of test your connection.
Now _why_ you are having the problem is a mystery to me. Someone more knowledgable will have to help in this dept.

During the process of attaching to a project the BOINC Client Software attempts to communicate with the project by acting like a web browser and downloading a web page. If it fails to be able to download that special web page it attempts to download the homepage of both Yahoo and Google since they are known to be always online. The last check the BOINC Client Software performs is to check whether or not the computer is known to actually be connected to a network.
