Anyone got any ideas what I can do with the other one? It has 256 Mbyte of
Ram @ 2Ghz plus an 80GByte hard drive.
Your computers are hidden so it is difficult to help. If it is a laptop it could be the cooling fan. Running a DC project works your CPU hard (100%) so it sounds like a heat related problem. Does it make this sound after a short period of time or as soon as you start your DC project? Hope this helps.

Sorry - got my knickers in a twist there - ouch!
Starts making that noise after a short while. May be heat related.

My laptop used to do that after a while (most annoying at night when it is in the bedroom). It ended up being the cooling fan was running 24/7 and not keeping up. I installed threadmaster with 50% processor usage and the problem disappeared.
I am Australian and damn proud of it!!! I have been known as Winkle since school, and work as an Electronics Design Engineer, doubling as an IT Admin. I still feel like I am 22 years old. I love to laugh, and generally love life. I love good food with fine wine mixed with good company.
I am always willing to help when needed, and will give the shirt of my back if someone needs it more than I do. If something is none of my business, I will respect that and not butt in. Above all, I appreciate honesty and people being straight with me. I don't suffer fools, rudeness, or being "used" readily, and I would rather walk away from abuse than get into a slinging match.
I consider myself rich in the important things in life, but cash poor (see shirt comment above). I have 6 kids and 3 grandkids, (which also keeps me cash poor). Life has somtimes been extremely hard, but given the chance, I would not have changed a second of it.
Why do I crunch numbers ? Why not !! The PC's are idle most of the time anyway, and if I can help in some way, all the better.
