RE: Ok. Here's a funny

Ok. Here's a funny thing - the .exe & .pdb files are zero bytes in length. Look at this DIR output:
[pre]
17/02/2008 00:15 0 einstein_S5R3_4.26_windows_intelx86.exe
17/02/2008 00:15 0 einstein_S5R3_4.26_graphics_windows_intelx86.exe
17/02/2008 00:15 0 einstein_S5R3_4.26_windows_intelx86.pdb[/pre]
Odd.

Take a look at the precise time of those zero length files. It's the same as the timestamp on the website for when the new tasks were sent to you that day - ie at the start of the day 15 minutes after midnight UTC. If you had placed these files in position earlier on, they would have had an earlier timestamp. It sure looks like the server, at the time of giving you fresh tasks according to your quota now that a new day had ticked over, also decided to "refresh" your executables.

niterobin has subsequently reported success by both manually downloading and also changing the timezone. The problem is that you have to wait yet another day because of the quota restrictions before you can try again. So why don't you try the following since you have no work anyway.

  • * Change your timezone far away from the UK - eg Alaska
    * Detach from the E@H project - this should get rid of your HostID - make sure you know your account credentials just in case.
    * Reboot your machine to have a clean start
    * Start BOINC (if it doesn't auto-start) and re-attach to E@H. This should get you new everything from a mirror in the USA.
    * When the new stuff finishes downloading and all looks good change your timezone back to what it should be.
    * Attempt again (like last time) to merge your two hosts that you should now have.

Let us know how you get on. You'll get there in the end :).

Cheers,
Gary.

Did you actually try changing

Did you actually try changing your timezone? If you don't do something to get away from the Glasgow server, it appears that nothing will change. Reinstalling your OS isn't likely to work since the problem is nothing to do with the OS, it would appear. Take a good look at what those who have worked around the problem have actually done.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Gary.

To change timezone, right

To change timezone, right click the clock in the system tray and select the "adjust time/date" option. In the screen that appears select the "timezone" tab and make the change there. Don't change the local time of your computer's clock though. Just pretend you are in a different part of the planet :).

The above is where you find it for XP. I imagine other versions are quite similar. Even if you're not using windows it should be somewhere easy. Try searching for "timezone" in your local help index.

Cheers,
Gary.

Haha!! Change the timezone

Haha!! Change the timezone for the computer. I was looking to change the timezone for Boinc. Silly me.
Done this and some work units for Einstein have arrived and are being worked on.
I'll change the timezone back to U K now.
Thanks for being gentle.

Finally! I've stopped being

Finally! I've stopped being deferred and the tasks arrived last night! It must have been the 'restart'.
Now. What's this daily quota business?

19/02/2008 19:39:49|Einstein@Home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 5090 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
19/02/2008 19:39:54|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
19/02/2008 19:39:54|Einstein@Home|Message from server: No work sent
19/02/2008 19:39:54|Einstein@Home|Message from server: (reached daily quota of 1 results)

ONE result?? One a day???

Is this a restriction all subscribers face? Or are my prefs in need of tweeking.
I saw my 'keep enough work' was set to 0.25 days so have just set that to two days.
But I'm not sure if it's had time to trickle through yet...
Well, I've got five hours to think about it :-)
