in some point i agree with

in some point i agree with you ageless:

"...it's hopeless."

but out of a completly different reason. the name of the team you founded "machinae supremacy" even says it all, even its just the name of a band.

i have a completly different point of view: not only mankinds supremacy over machines, as there is no option for machines to supreme.

you simply do accept, that the machine knows better, what to do and that for accept the overriding of your settings and at the same time your will. i dont and i never will do so.

the program may have several options in my oppinion:

1. fetch less work
2. not fetch any work at all
3. give out a message, that the resource share is not sufficient and ask me, if i want to change it.

simply overridin my decisions is an option i dont allow. if it continues i will set it to just run seti and thereby get nearer to the result i want, that most of the resources go to seti or in worst case simply terminate it completly, if the programmers should ever allow themselves to run whatever they want on the machine i paid for, i clean, when its dirty, and which runs with the electricity i pay. anyway i liked the classic seti@home more.

that for i also love the idea of linux. linux users dont accept, that the software doesnt run, as they want it to - they change it. also this machine only runs on windows mainly for my wife. but as theres still an old p3-866 in the basement, which would be sufficient for the things she needs windows for... and for the rest shes more than intelligent and skilled enough to learn usin linux too.

that the boinc app doesnt auto update but the science apps do isnt any security improvement at all, as boinc is just a platform to run other progs on and the science apps could carry malicious code as well.

no matter our different point of views: with all my respects and friendly greetings. ill always respect all ppl. machines not.

Linux is mostly Open Source. Guess what? BOINC is completely Open Source. So go edit what you want. Just make sure you let the developers know of your changes, as is common practice in Open Source.

But you may find it's more problematic to just change it to your needs, well no... wants!, than it is to leave it be as it is.

i didnt need to guess - i

i didnt need to guess - i always knew. its under the gnu as well.

if id find so complicated to change i dont know. one thing i know for sure: i find myself too lazy to investin time and effort on this instead enjoyin whatever different.

btw, whats up with you mate? had a bad day? why so agressive?

Seti account:

% of time BOINC client is running 0.2294 % [=red] under which you will find 4 variables on_frac, connected_frac, active_frac, cpu_efficiency.
*Change all the values you see there to be 1.000000
*OPTIONAL. While editing you could reset all short and long term debt values to 0.000000 if you wished. For two projects there would be FOUR values in total to be found and changed, two for Seti and two for EAH. The names are self evident. This would start you with a completely clean slate.
*Save and exit from notepad making sure it's NOT written as client_state.xml.txt
[/]

You can now restart BOINC and your problems will be solved. BOINC will no longer think your computer is overcommitted and will faithfully give Seti 85% of your CPU time and EAH will get the remaining 15%.

If you do not run 24/7, it will still be fine as long as you don't go beserk with your connect to network setting. If you end up only leaving your machine on for 8 hours per day, the on_frac variable that you have now set to 1.000000 will be reduced to 0.333333 and BOINC will know that it has reduced hours to play with. If you switch BOINC off while you do critical work then the active_frac variable will be reduced to reflect this. If you shut your machine down completely for a month while you go away on holidays, please realise that this will have a big effect on the on_frac variable when next you start up.

Despite all of the above however, BOINC will be fanatical in trying to do two things, (a) not let work expire if possible, and (b) honour your resource share. The most important thing for you to do is leave BOINC alone to do its job :).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Gary.

Hi Gary, your answer

Hi Gary,

your answer finally is one, which is actively tryin to correct the problem instead sayin "pray to the almighty god software".

i even had changed last night the boinc version to the actual one and the values are atm these:

0.999996
1.000000
0.999980
0.897357
1151839160.093750

under E@H i found:

1.000000

under S@H:

0.977983

so it seems to even have resetted itself with the new version.

but why these values have become so bad i dont understand, as the machine in the current config is runnin about 2 years and crunchin a bunch of wu's. the only few time, it isnt runnin are the few weeks im for holidays.

the value >>% of time BOINC client is running 0.2294 %<< i had also even seen and wondered about it, but thought it might be an overall percentage since the time of registration. on the actual machine its started, when the machine boots and seldom gets stopped, when i sometimes shutdown for maintainence like cleanin the fans, addin a ram module or whatever or simply, when im for holidays.

the only reasonable explaination seems then, that the newer versions of s@h and e@h were less and less compatible with the older boinc.

thanks for some constructive lines of help.

greetings

caba

PS: also ive just seen, that with the last result, which was returned to s@h, crunched with new boinc version runnin my machine received a new id and the values are stored as follows there:

running 99.9996 %
While BOINC running, % of time work is allowed 99.998 %
Average CPU efficiency 0.897357
Result duration correction factor 0.977983

so ill give it a while and see...
