Just a suggestion from me, please - not important.
I happened to be in the middle of doing some maintenance myself when I got

I know your maintenance events tend to be pretty short-lived, so I tried again

Might it be possible to set the default backoff to something smaller, like 5 or 10 minutes, rather than BOINC's default 1 hour? That would smooth the workflow somewhat.
