What will be the deadline for those first S5R3 results?
Well, for h1_0540.00_S5R2__179_S5R3a_0, which was issued on September 22, the deadline is on October 6, so two weeks for that one.
So if the new units are really 50 % the runtime of S5R2 "monster WUs", and the deadline was cut only 33%, then the new run should be better suited for those who have less powerful PCs and/or PCs that are running BOINC only a couple of hours per day. I think this is great news.
Hmmm... if this is the case, I might consider adding the P3 to the fleet again... well, let's see how the WUs behave on the more powerful boxes and then I'll decide. Hey, you S5R3 WUs, I've got an Athlon and a Core Duo standing by :-D come out come out wherever you are...

*LOL*
As to the PIII: Well,my dual PIII had no problems even with those monsters, but is running 24/7, OTOH. So yes, the PIII should be fine again.
One of my 1.8 GHZ Athlon XPs will first run dry and then probably fetch my first S5R3 result, but that will be tomorow.
Just got lucky with my desktop. The estimate is about 18 hours per WU on my 3500+, but of course since it has barely started crunching the estimate may be wildly off...
Well, the figure is based on S5R3 results only and many crunchers are still busy with S5R2 work in the pipeline, so this number should come down significantly. A year perhaps.
The S5R2 WU took 265000 seconds on my AMD Athlon 1700+
The S5R3 WU is expected to take 100000 seconds (13.3% finished in 3:35h)
Duration correction factor is
0.718876
so I assume it has not changed with the new application, especially hasn't been reset to 1.0
Well, is there any optimization already included in the S5R3 app?
Edit: I know that the WUs are now computing an other frequenzy band and therefore the time to finish will change. But as far as I can remember, Bernd wrote something about half the length of the S5R2 WU.
That's why I'm thinking about optimizations already included in the new app.

Thus far my result ran for 39m 12s and it's at 1.767% .. so the total runtime would come to 27h 32 minutes. (estimated at 33h 06m)
We'll see.

How does that time compare with the S5R2 work units? Just curious! ;)

I got a new S5R3 WU for the same dataset:
the new one:
