OK kajun, fork and not forck ! But in the matter of tricky snakes, don't worry about, i've been grown up with snakes of all sort around me,i just take them in my hands and they became my sticks , just like the stick of Moses in front of Ramses.
I think the boffins over in the science thread have nicked them to clean their whiteboards.
I can't believe how strong your accent is – lucky for this Yank to have a lad from Basingstoke to help me understand your post – and it wasn't me – I use my socks (as filters, also).

Sorry old chap, didn't mean to confuse you. :-) (I've been teaching Kajunfisher British - he can now use the word pillock in a conversation)
I hope you don't use dirty socks to clean your whiteboards. I won't look at your lovely pictures of Fermi-Dirac distributions in the same way if that's the case.

ROFL!
Kajunfisher's lucky to have such a good teacher – I had to find out through trial-and-error that “cheerio” isn't quite
synonymous with “hi, how are you”... :) I'm still trying to work “boffin” into a conversation...

I don't know whether you work/study in the sciences or it's just a hobby for you - but if it's more than a hobby you will be surrounded by lots of boffins and should be able to work it into your conversation quite naturally. eg: "Ahh! Here comes Professor Smith, he's the boffin working on coupled neutrino oscillations."
Oh Es99, how conscientious you are for your wish to enrich the philological bacground of my dear professor of mathematics Chipper. I hope my dear professor will enjoy your teachings . Good luck !

Chipper, I found this for you. The English-to-American Dictionary to help you with your studies.
