Yes it is needed. Windows XP x64 is shipping now and the beta is still good for several months. In addition, the 64-bit Linux kernels have been available for some time.
I'd love to see Einstein@Home ported to 64 bit! :-)

It is not that simple for Windows users. Currently, there are no compilers for AMD64 from reputable compiler writers like Borland or Microsoft that have had a final release yet as far as I know. Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005, which can compile for AMD64, is still in beta testing and its license prohibits the release of anything compiled with it because MS does not want developers releasing buggy code that can cause problems due to bugs in the libraries that are not yet found. I haven't found any Borland AMD64 compilers. This leaves assembly code as the only option for now, and that is considered to be insane if you want to write anything whose size exceeds a few kilobytes due to the ease of introducing bugs in assembly. For Linux however, the latest releases of gcc will support AMD64, and we should hope they recompile their code to take advantage of it. We Windows users will have to wait until Microsoft releases a final version of Visual Studio 2005 before we can get our hands on a 64 bit version of Einstein@home.
Hello together - I am also running Einstein but my Linux Servers have to run with Seti-Clients that ist very bad for my Einstein statistic as 4x 2GHz AMD 64 Opteron CPU can't do Einstein-work - terrible!
Is there any reason why there is no Source-Code available?
P L E A S E change this or hurry up in Pre-Compiling an AMD 64 optimized Linux Client.

Hello. Just curious if there are any further updates on 64 bit Windows versions of E@H? 64 bit OS' have been out for over 2 years now, Vista64 came in January, and 64 bit CPU's are becoming common place. Is there any chance of seeing E@H compatible with 64bit OS'?
Could you at least make E@H compatable with the official BOINC x64 release of 5.10.13? This shouldn't take long - it's a matter of inserting a line in the "servers recognized" area. I've upgraded (from 5.8.16 x86) and now I get:

when I try to report. I'm going to have to downgrade, report, and detach, because E@H doesn't even recognize the x64 client!
