10 GB disk space for BOINC but still "no" or "not enough" disk space

It is a harddrive type WDC

It is a harddrive type WDC WD3200AAJS-40VWA1 with a capacity of 298,09 GB. Half of that is 149,045 GB. Free are 30 GB on partition 1 + 170 GB on partition 2 = 200 GB space free. Half of total disk space (149 GB) is < amount of disk space free (200 GB). But I still do not understand why I should do: "then increase that setting. " Most of the space is still unused so BOINC has enough space left. It asks for some more megabytes while a lot of gigabytes are free and given to BOINC ...

That setting was thought up

Message 85721 in response to message 85720

That setting was thought up when hard drives were a lot smaller, when you could easily make a single partition out of a hard drive (which is very difficult these days, spoken from experience on trying to put one partition on a 500GB drive. ;-))

But OK, given that it's an old setting that looks at the whole drive (in your case 300GB) and as you've found already 150GB < 170GB, try to increase the setting to a higher percentage of total disk space to use. Won't hurt trying it. Minimum is 57% (((170/300)*100)=57), so try 60% instead.

In the mean time I made a ticket trying to get this changed. :-)

Rethinking about this, you should of course have oodles of space with that setting, 20GB more than the minimum you set.

Can you exit and restart BOINC and then post your startup messages for me?

Can you please post the

Can you please post the contents of your global_prefs.xml and (if applicable) global_prefs_override.xml files? You can open these with a text editor, copy the contents and paste them in an answer window. Is easier than making a screen shot.

(Why the screen shot, though? Doesn't BOINC Manager have the button of Copy all messages on the Mac?)

The copy and paste did not work. I can not find that files via spotlight in my Mac. Where are they placed in?

Should be in /Library/Applications Support/BOINC/ (if you used the default directories to install BOINC with).

This is your problem. The override preferences, will as they say, override any preferences set on the web site. So you can go change the amount of disk space on the web all you want, but BOINC will only use the override setting.

If you are still using BOINC 6.2.18, open BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences, click Clear.

The web site preferences will then take over.
