The sheer fact that MS have ceased support for this OS is the prime reason that I don't use it!! Vulnerabilities are found in operating systems all the time, especially in Windows systems. As MS are ceasing support for this operating system, then patches for these vulnerabilities will not be produced and you will be opening your machine to possible zombie infection and other attacks by malware on the web. Check out Gibson Research if you don't believe me.
As I was saying before, Win98 can't support the most recent hardware either, making a lot of the recent CPU developments that require OS support useless. Memory management on Win98 is also flakey at best, as is the security model. Due to the way that the FAT32 filing system works, with a 80Gb HDD fitted, the minimum allocation unit is either 16 or 32Kb. This means that a file containing a single byte will use up at worst 32Kb of disk space!! NTFS under XP is far more reliable and doesn't waste anywhere near as much disk space (about 4Kb on an identical 80Gb example!). Thus using such a legacy operating system on a machine that is on 24/7 (I presume) is a waste of time, you end up spending more time on maintainance and reboots than any real work... Trust me, I've been there!! Add to that soup, the possible damage to other systems as well as your own through zombie infection and the resulting DDoS attacks that these zombie bot programs perform, plus the possibilities of having those zombie bots logging every keystroke you make, including bank details etc. Do you realy want to take that risk??

Really? No problem, i would even pay 3000.-€ for it.

I did, and i found that:
try this
and
search for it on eBay
"Nichts für ungut", as we say it here in Germany

Now those are the real specs, at least they fixed them
