Temperature was 41 C in the shade today. So we do what we now always do on such January days : we wonder if the February Dragon will visit this year.
Smoking man, smoking.
Up here in the states (USA) just had a major cold front with snow "blow" through.
West of here in Colorado they got a half a foot of snow or so. And probably north of us (Kansas) too.
I wonder if we could invent a "remote" heat pump? You ship heat up here and we ship the cool down there?

Got nearly 2" of snow overnight in Lawrence, Ks, USA. A friend reported up to 10" of snow east of Sioux city, ia, USA.

Well, in Rockford, IL, today and tomorrow it is going up to a blistering 7॰ F with wind chills of -15॰ to -25॰ F.
Tonight it is going down to -16॰ F (actual temp).
Is that cold enough?
Time to put more BOINC crunchers online?
It got a little cool around here (outside Kansas City on the Kansas side) but not as cold as you are getting.

The NWS has upgraded our "Winter Storm Watch" to a "Winter Storm Warning". So depending on exactly where the storm(s) track we could get snowed under or in or be wondering what all the fuss was about.

As of 8:00 am NE Oklahoma has had a bit of light icing and some sleet. Nothing terrible yet (knock on wood). Heavy snow forecast starting late afternoon and overnight.

Looks like my local ended up with around 4". But the forecast for south east of the Kansas City Metro was sounding a lot deeper.
I was reading that predicting where and how much it may snow and/or ice up enough to make driving hazardous was being very difficult.
Sounds like predicting our next found gravity wave ;)

After a mid winter so far, we here in Albuquerque are facing a few days of unseasonably cold temperature. The overnight low temperature forecasts for the next few days for my location as pulled up from the national database by Wunderground are:
11,7,8,14,18,19,21
Not impressive at all for someone from North Dakota, but around here that counts for sustained cold. The gas company has warned us that they might run low and asked people to lower their thermostats.
My house has an odd vulnerability. On sufficiently cold nights the drain from the dishwasher freezes solid. When it does so it can take a couple of mild days to thaw out again. Twice I called in a repair person, only to find it thawed into working when they arrived a couple of days later.
After trying the usual tricks of opening cupboard doors and drawers to get room air closer to the scene, I tried positioning a small heater trying to blow warm air behind the dishwasher through a small hole about an inch in diameter going from below the sink to the back of the dishwasher.
Just a year or two ago I had another idea: just run the dishwasher in the middle of the night. The interior heats up quite hot--especially if I select the "sanitize" or "extra dry" settings. With the dishwasher door left closed it stays quite warm for a long time. So I figure it should heat the space behind it enough.
Fortunately it has a time delayed start feature, so I figure I'll run it every night for the next few nights, timed to start about 1:00 a.m.
