I've got a small boot hard disk on which I keep OS and apps, and a large separate data hard disk. Is there a way to make E@H use the mostly-free area on the separate disk (D:) rather than just the small available space on the boot disk (C:)?

Thanks for the reference -- guess I'm not the only one with this issue. It would seem to be a good feature to add onto a future version -- it affects those who partition drives as well as those who have multiple drives, and boinc would get much better performance if it allowed workspace drive selection.

Why do you think that?? I doubt that drive selection would have any significant effect on BOINC performance. Remember BOINC is just the framework on which the science application depends. Most of the time BOINC gets out of the way and allows the science app to do its thing. You should just install BOINC and all the science projects on your big data partition and forget about it.
Cheers,
Gary.

As I see it, BOINC is a relatively small app. (At least, mine is! I'm still using 4.19, but it takes up just shy of 2 megs of space for the client itself.) You're probably just as well off to keep everything together and install BOINC itself on the second drive. In addition to the science apps, 2 megs isn't much.

Hmm.. I just came up with an idea.
I got 4 comps running 24/7 with their respective harddrives on,all the time...
with lots of noice.(yes, its old drives.)
Now if you locate all boincs on to the quietest drive and load the boincs remotly through a switch or hub... am I off-road here..? does it work?
Shouldn't the workdrive be the same quiet drive?
I think I'm gonna try this.

You probably want a diskless node, for Linux check here: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Diskless-root-NFS-HOWTO.html and here: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Diskless-root-NFS-other-HOWTO.html
I've no idea how to do this in Windows :p.

I have thoughts about diskless systems, yes, but it looks like I need to go Linux then..well,anything else but windows.
Have looked into clustering too.. :P
I gonna try linux when this projects linux clients gets faster. ;)
Thanks for the addresses, might be handy some day. :)
BTW,My attempt of remote loading generated a lot of error messages like this
"Can't get application disk usage:-111" so I backed of. :P
lots of noice. boincs remotly

boincs remotly
Well You have blown me away with your technical terms. My "noice" is from cooling fans and "remotly is not shaving for two days. Eh?
Well,yes there's fans

Well,yes there's fans also,but they dont whine like my OLD hdd:s. :P
Didn't get that shaving thing?.. maybe it's just my english. :)

It's the english; motley --> speckled, spotted --> not shaven.
Don't mind, I knew that you meant 'remotely' and 'noise'.
Should't discuss to much about spelling errors.
