What does this mean for things like the BOINCPentathlon? Or just doing forum wars or other stats based competitions?

As far as I understand, the BOINC Pentathlon evaluation is done based on BOINCStats data, so this shouldn't be affected. If I'm wrong and the organizers do pull the XML dumps directly, they will need to contact us and will certainly get access to the data as well.

I think the Pentathlon get

I think the Pentathlon get stats from the projects as there are hourly updates for every project and most projects only export several times a day. One year it was WCG but only 1 sub project counted so that can only come from the project.

Did E@H stats stop or is it Free-DC side that's broken? Last update was the morning update on 6/6.

Stats directory appears to be protected now, so I can't get at them for Free-DC updated

I am not sure why, but this

I am not sure why, but this whole GDPR stuff has been applied to Gridcoin-whitelisted projects and Einstein along with WGC have been removed from the whitelist because of GDPR. Is this because of the regulated statistics?

Damn, locked out already eh.

Damn, locked out already eh. Death by red tape is such a trademark EU thing.

Sorry, the premature stats

Sorry, the premature stats lockdown was my fault - I was merely testing something that I though would have no noticeable effect, in preparation of the actual thing. Sorry for the confusion, stats should be accessible again.

FYI, we are in contact with Gridcoin and they can surely be added to our list of registered downstream stats consumers if they want to.

No worries,
Oliver

I use Boiccstats and rarely

I use Boincstats and rarely Free-DC. And yes Gridcoin should be added to your registered list.

Have a careful read of what Oliver said:-

Today I'd like to talk about our statistics exports. While these are primarily meant for BOINC statistics services like BOINCstats, BOINC Combined Statistics or Free-DC, they might also be used by individuals and teams. Due to the GDPR we are in a situation where we effectively have to lock down anonymous access to those data.

He's talking about stats exports - the whole big blob of information about everybody.  The highlighting is mine.

I don't think he's talking about any individual and their own stats.  I'm no expert and I could be wrong, but as I understand it, your stats will always be available to you.  The restriction will be to anonymous 'others' having unfettered access to your information.  In other words, anyone wanting the whole blob will have to be identifiable and ultimately accountable for what they do with all the information.  With things like the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I would have thought that the locking down of anonymous access would be a step in the right direction.

Stats sites like BOINCstats will still be able to get the blobs - they just have to do so in an 'identifiable' manner.

Why do they have to be identifiable?  Here is just one pretty obvious reason.  Imagine a random participant wants to stop contributing and close/delete their account.  My understanding is that the organisation where the account was set up has a legally enforceable obligation to comply.  That's not the full issue.  If information about that account has been sent to other parties, those other parties are also under an obligation to remove the information as well.  So the primary organisation has to have full details about which other parties have the information.  It has a legal obligation to inform them and then they have an obligation to remove the information.

So what's the problem with a 'non-anonymous' system of stats export?  Just more red tape for the projects that have to implement a 'compliant' system, I suppose.  We should be offering sympathy rather than threatening withdrawal of support :-).

Well put Mr. Roberts.

Gridcoin is what I need to

Gridcoin is what I need to run E@H. When I discovered I was not getting any credit I switched off my CalcCluster. It appears nothing is being credited for GRC and it sounds like it's the Gridcoin devs that need to act. I'm going to see if I can find any statements from them. Hope to get my idle computers working again soon.
