Am running BOINC 5.2.7 on Windows XP Pro and am not having any trouble with SETI. Any ideas?

Unrecoverable Error for result ... Can't find the file specified
)
AW,
I can make 2 guesses.
1 - The large data file w1_1472 became corrupted in download, OR
2 - I see that you recently upgraded from 5.2.2 to 5.2.7. Is it possible that you deleted the contents of the Boinc, Projects, or Einstein.phys.uwm.edu folder during the course of the changeover?

Michael

I did upgrade BOINC recently, but did not delete any folders during upgrade (at least not intentionally). It is possible the work unit is corrupt since I also got the same error for:
11/11/2005 1:14:45 PM|Einstein@Home|Unrecoverable error for result w1_1472.0__1472.3_0.1_T09_S4hC_0 (The system cannot find the file specified. (0x2) - exit code 2 (0x2))
AW, You've been having
)
AW,
You've been having trouble with EAH for a while by the look of your results list. This has caused you to now have 3 separate computer IDs (CPUIDs) for your machine. I've just had a look through every single result for each of the 3 separate CPUIDs and I'm seeing error messages that I'm not familiar with including one containing an email address with a request to send information to the Devs.
The funny thing is that you are getting some good results mixed up with the errors. It almost looks like some sort of intermittent hardware fault and that's what I'd be checking next. As you say, you are not getting any problems over at Seti so it's a bit of a puzzle.
In your latest errors, you have the specific message "The system cannot find the file specified ...". I just went to the Wiki and typed in the first four words of the above message into the lower (non-Google) search box and got this page where you can see an Article Title match for the full error message. If you click on that match you can read all about that error message, including the suggestion by the Wiki writers that a file system error is a possible cause. Also notice that Paul D. Buck is interested in examples of your logs of this error message for the Wiki. I'm sure he would really appreciate it if you could zip up the two error logs stderrgui.txt and stderrdae.txt plus any stdout*.txt logs from your BOINC folder and send them to the email address that he mentions.
I hope you can get it sorted out soon. If Walt is around he might know a bit more about possible causes of your problem.
Cheers,
Gary.
Gary, Thanks for the quick
)
Gary,
Thanks for the quick reply. I did run a check disk on the C drive which found (and corected) some errors. Hopefully this will fix the problem once I get some new work units from EAH. I have never seen any email from the devs though.
I looked at the post you mentioned and will zip up the files requested for Paul Buck. I do not use the GUI screen saver (stderrgui = RPC_CLIENT init timed out) since I am running as a service, but will send the other files requested.
RE: ... I have never seen
)
No, what I was trying to say was that the error message contained a request to send notification about the bug that caused the error message to the Devs at a particular email address given as part of the error message. Have a look for yourself here. This is the oldest result still visible for CPUID #432794.
OK, thanks. I run as a service on a number of machines and can always fire up BOINC Manager if I want to look at current work in progress or current messages on the box running the service. I also use BoincView as well to remotely monitor a mixture of service and single user installs. Do you have difficulty getting a GUI to fire up?
Cheers,
Gary.
Gary, Sorry. Misunderstood
)
Gary,
Sorry. Misunderstood about the email to the devs. Checked the log and there were several errors around that time and later, may have been a corruption in the download or just a fluke.
Most recent work unit looks like it completed OK:

Thanks for your help.
ETA: I can run the Boinc manager with no problems. Have not tried any other GUI.

By default, the service install of BOINC does not allow graphics or screensavers to be shown/run. The Wiki has a workaround though.

Not sure that checkdisk fixed the problem after all. Got same error for 11109462:

Ran check disk again and did not find any problems with the drive. Any ideas??
RE: Ran check disk again

Yes, I think so. Your machine is listed as an Athlon 64 3200+. You have had some validated results lately at around 18,200 seconds each. That's amazingly good unless you are overclocking. How fast are you pushing that box? :).
I run overclocked Athlon XPs myself, but I make sure they are well cooled and stable so I don't get any errors. I've no experience with overclocking A64s so I don't know the issues there but if you are overclocking, maybe you need to back it off just a little. If you push PCI/AGP speeds too far out of spec you can get disk corruption, so I just thought I'd ask to find out if that might be the problem.
Cheers,
Gary.

)
Yes, I am overclocking the A64. Std bus speed is 200 using a 10x multiplier which give you about 2000 MHz. Currently I have the bus set to 275 using a 9x multiplier which gives me 2483 MHz (about a 25% overclock). CPU is running 36 degrees C (99 F) which is well within acceptable bounds. I have run Memtest86+ with no errors for three hours and even backed down by 5 MHz from the highest stable setting just to be sure. I can drop back some more but I am not having issues with Predictor or Seti. The harddisk is a SATA drive so I don't think that I am clocking the system beyond its bounds.
