Well my good woman, it was just that the quality of Mr. Elbows sarnies were being called into question. I thought perhaps you might like to show us all a little delicacy of your own?
I've had little time to get my breath back, there I was minding my own business, when out of the blue I was Googled.
Very nice it was to.
It's brought the first flush of youth back to my cheeks.
I'll get on with the sandwiches as soon as my hands have stopped shaking.
That's the big question. Whatever it is, it's sprayed on the meat, to give it that smoky smell and taste. A real downer.
Even the Wikipedia representation of liquid smoke doesn't make it better.
How about this one? Liquid Smoke Analysis - The Flavor of Hardwood Smoke (it includes a link to a cool gas chromatogram with 50 peak identifications). Don't “cyclopentenolones sound yummy? Mmmmm :) But it actually sounds like all the flavor and none of the tar, ashes, or icky bits. But you're supposed to spray it on the meat?? That explains why I could never get the charcoal to light....

I think the more “cyclopentenolones you have...the stronger you are with the force.
I've learned that a little liquid smoke goes a long way. But it is not up to par with the taste of meat from a wood smoker. I used to have an old refrigerator (remember rounded corners and big chrome handle/latch?) that I had converted into a smoker. The wood/smoker box was built off to the side and used a blower to force the air. Could smoke 6 turkeys at a time reddish/pink throughout and the meat would fall off the bones. Damn, I wish I still had it.

Having just seen on Discovery that they make bacon butties by adding liquid smoke to it, I have lost my appetite forever.
