Hi everyone,
I've just dowloaded the Einstein@home package and am running it as a screensaver, everything is running fine...but..The logo and stats seem to perpetually stay in the same place on my screen and I am a bit concerned that the logo and text is going to burn itself into my screen as my machine is nearly always turned on for very long periods, a lot of which is spent in screensaver mode.

Screensaver or Screen Burner?

Thanks for that - I tend to disagee about it being a low priority though as it surely defeats the purpose of a screen saver. I suppose I'll have to initiate monitor standby in power saving but didn't want to do that because my monitor has a tendency to forget it's screen position coming out of standby

In Windows the Boinc screensaver has an option to blank the screen after x minutes, would your monitor have problems with that?

Sextant 4.67 is a test of project preferences.
If you go to your account preferences and set "static graphics" to "no" then the static parts of the screensaver (bitmaps and text) will not be displayed. This feature is provided for older screens to prevent burn-in, but it's also the first test of the preferences system.
LCD Monitor Burn I had

LCD Monitor Burn
I had been running the boinc screen saver for a long time on a crt with no burn problems. I switched to an lcd monitor in February 2005 (KDS 917s), not expecting burn, but just dicovered the beginning of burn - now visible in what would be the lower right of the main circle.
I have the blanking feature operating, but my use is very intermittent, so the non-blanked saver is often on the screen.
I noticed it when the entire screen was a medium gray.

Running the screen saver is only using valuable CPU cycles, thus slowing down the actual crunching. Better deactivate it, and if you want to have a look what´s going on rather use the "Show graphics" option.
@Leo: TFTs cannot burn in, since there is no cathode ray used in them. What does happen to them is a deteriation of the background lighting. That is most noticable when you look at a unicoloured screen (white, grey, blue ect.). Some TFTs show this right from the beginning.
