I recently decided to read up on the screensaver (by the way my whole family thinks this is the coolest screensaver they've ever seen) in order to find out what all those cool symbols, and the different color stars means.
Well, the "All about the screensaver" page (here: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/starsphere.php ) tells me that I can run the screensaver as a regular application/graphic and do cool things with it:
"When the graphics are displayed in a separate graphics window (rather than as a screensaver) you can control the display with the mouse and keyboard."
Well, I've never heard of being able to run screensaver graphics NOT as a screensaver like this, and can't figure out how to do it. It doesn't work if I'm in my screensaver settings and simply previewing the screensaver. There doesn't seem to be anything on the BOINC manager that you can select to launch the screensaver in this mode. ANYBODY out there know how to do it?
Thanks!

TBV,
Depending on which type on Boinc installation you have, it is possible to view the graphics by highlighting the WU in progress and clicking the "Show Graphics" button on the left panel. I suppose that would qualify as a non-screensaver mode.

TBV,
As michael said you can click on a WU and select show graphics; with the mouse you are then able to rotate/zoom the sphere and have a closer look at stars and so on.

You can import the files into something like Flash or Director and use them as an add on to a(n) project. Not that difficult really....
