Of course, but there's also merit in wanting the best performance per watt. Most of us pay for our own electricity, so getting much more performance for only a little more power used is better from an efficiency standpoint.
higher "numbers" = more science done. the credit earned is directly proportional to the rate in which you are completing tasks.

but Nvidia cards are being held back constantly and need some global twiddling if you want your 912GB/s Nvidia card to outpace the 1024 GB/s AMD card
