Mikey.....the only way I ever killed a Windmill Palm is about 20 years ago its first Winter got down to 5 degrees so they died but since then I have that big one and 2 more that are 7ft tall now on the other side of the pond and a short one in front of the tall one.......that other type that grows in the south won't survive here unless they are protected from the cold weather........mine are all planted in just sand and gravel type soils and they seem to love it.
And I think that's the problem with mine...bad soil. The house is only 3 1/2 years old and I think the builder buried something in the ground under both areas so he didn't have to pay to get rid of it, he does that alot!! What I want to do is have someone take out the old tree and then let me work on the soil for a few weeks then bring me a new tree. I want to dig out all of the old dirt and replace it with palm tree friendly stuff, right now the builder uses clay mixed with a little bit of scraped off dirt as top soil. Even though I live near the beach it's a long way down to get to any sand so nothing grows very well, even the Bermuda grass sod they put down when we move in has problems for about 2 to 3 years.
Did anyone experience an internet outage last evening. I had problems getting to E@H, Ubuntu's software servers, news servers etc. All seems fine now. Not all sites were effected. Felt like an upstream network issue.

It was quite strange. Ubuntu would begin to download fixes/patches then the network connection would fail. I tried this 3 times. Also my connection to CBS AllAccess would not connect. I rebooted the ATT gateway because last week someone backhoe'd their way through an AT&T bundle. that took hours to correct. But not this time. Anyway it was fixed this morning when I got up. I could download the Ubuntu fixes/patches.

I know the other evening CBSNews had to go to the online verson for a large part of the US 'due to a techincal issue', I wonder if you got caught in that. I have the local ATMC cable which is a part of the AT&T family but not a major part.
I have had a Fig tree for decades and just get tiny fruits and I never even pick them and my Palm trees always turn out to be males ....the 2 I planted on the other side of the pond are getting big real fast so the roots must have made it to the pond water but I am worried about wind blowing them over so this Summer I may be making a couple buried concrete pad with a steel loop bolt to use to attach them to with a rope or something in the storm months.....one of those two has its first flower right now (just one) and the Palm tree next to it did n't flower so I will dream and hope it turns out to be a female ( I doubt it)
As far as my internet (Hughes satellite) it sucks and has been terrible for a few months and usually can't even load this page until after midnight (good thing Einstein GPU's don't depend on the isp like the LHC VB tasks)
I called in and let them know I'm not a satellite rookie so they didn't need to use the usual BS they read off a paper from India ( I owned an electronics company in the 80's and 90's and did microwave communications work).....and mad EPIRB's
So yesterday they called me and said I get a $30 discount each month for the next 6 months.
I don't mind that.....but it is still crappy slow most of the day and hard to post here or just check my email to delete all the junk mail.....a Dish is faster than .....well almost faster than lightning BUT they have so many customers on the one satellite that the kids and netflix and youtube watchers slow me down to a dialup speed so my LHC-dev work and VB is a pain in the ___________

New Orleans gets another Hurricane, wonder if they will raise more homes after this one too?

We are definitely at the start of hurricane season. My concern though is for the Mississippi Delta. As this thing travels north it is going to dump a lot of rain and it will flow "down hill".
