I've just had a look and the queue is empty again right now.

The validator may have been temporarily not running (eg to install a new version or carry out other maintenance) when you happened to look.

Cheers,
Gary.

So the apparent drop in

So the apparent drop in active hosts, 86K to 72K, over the w/end is simply reflecting the validator glitch only?

Cheers, Mike.

Message 82718 in response to message 82717

I think there's a latent database problem around here as well, as it happens that I try to load forums or individual threads and end up on a white page only. Reloading the same link will usually fix that, but in case of threads they're then set to 'already read' so I have to find the newest posts myself.

Uhmm... it's actually the wrong weekend as the validator glitch was the last weekend and that drop was the weekend before (unless I'm reading things incorrectly - which is always possible :-).)

I would guess that the two events aren't related, or perhaps, as Jord suggests, may just be different manifestations of an underlying malaise. As David Hammer reported, the validator got stuck on a particular result for some reason. It's hard to imagine how that could be linked to any change in the number of active hosts?? That change appears to be too sudden to be "real" don't you think?

EDIT: Now if you had been talking about floating point speed rather than active hosts, I could have agreed wholeheartedly.

Cheers,
Gary.

I'm getting a bit of deja vu here, ie. comparing with the end of the last run ( or the one before? ) when the high volume of 'clean up' activity caused instability server side. What was that due to again ( some hard drive 'NCQ' setting causing RAID rebuilds ) ?

Cheers, Mike.

Doh! Yeah .... still ~ 20 % drop in a couple of days.

Unless it's related to your Windoze -> Linux conversion idea, with those reborn boxes now calling back in from their first units.

Yeah the FP squiggle is definitely on the right w/end.

Something with the switch over from one application to the next and the server not coping? I can't remember, but I find it funny that each time I have these problems and email David about it, that there's no record of it anywhere on the server.

Perhaps someone is phishing the servers. We're not really on here... ;-)

Err..... no record of the problem, or no record of the email about the problem? :-)

Cheers, Mike.

Something like this, that I just had:

The server at einstein.phys.uwm.edu is taking too long to respond.

I'm sure if I report that to David that he won't be able to find a record of it on the server. I'm banned. ;-)

P.S: I did email David on it as I had multiple errors in a row.

So, is anybody else having performance problems for the web frontend? Pages not loading, time-outs, blank pages? Because on my end everything is OK! Go figure...
