Ok, here's the long awaited ( ? ) solution to the crossword!
Read em & weep .... :-)
Ahhh, heterodyning! Couldn't get that one, and I see I got a few others wrong that I thought I got right – same number of letters in geometry and topology, but one's correct and the other isn't... and I guessed DAC, but analog-to-digital converter (ADC) makes more sense, ah well...
That was fun, Mike, thanks for taking the time to put it together. If you should decide to do another sometime, I won't be so reluctant to give it a shot :)
This clearly needs a bump. I've been lurking in Cruncher's Corner, and then suddenly jumping out on the unsuspecting. Ah, the perks of a mod's role .... :-)
So it's time for the bi-annual inspection. Normally I'd get some minions to do this but they're busy ( ie. my kids are back to school after their holiday break ). Also my dog Rusty is quarantined with 'kennel cough' so he couldn't come down today.

'Lassitude' actually means an otherwise champion dog that's having a slack day. :-)
- Now, has there been any serious progress in our detection efforts?
- Can we claim to have achieved anything other than pizza, beer and aperitif consumption?
- Are the hammocks up to specification?
- Did you cover over the garbage trench out back?
- Are the dead bodies out of sight?
- Is this installation in fact carbon neutral?
- Is it alcohol neutral? [ ie. does intake = output ? ]
- And what of those Supreme Court writs - did you burn them like I told you too?
- Would you like another crossword or similiar word quiz to be treasured forever by your descendants?
If so, or not, please advise...... :-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Mike...I think the answer is yes to all the items on your list...Unless someone passed out in an inebriated stupor before completing their assigned task...So i say all systems are go...We are ready to resume countdown to infinity.
I think this place needs a little more hands on management or management needs to delegate more...
We ran out of beer again...
My job description states that I must lie in hammock.. Feel soft tropical breezes... Sip beer... Be a sensor..
I really don't mind being a sensor...:-)
Next time it happens I am filing a grievance with the union... By the way who is my shop stewart?:-)

Ah, the negative acknowledgment method. Highly prized by upper management. If we didn't hear about it, then it didn't happen

I think we'd want the APS ( Allround Pizpott Society ) to be talking to the NSF ( Null Sensor Foundation ) on this.
Cheers, Mike.

Well to be E@H tangential I thought I'd make a music quiz. Not my forte really, but as one of errr .... progressing years I've accumulated more than a few tracks of this n' that. So this foray will be advantageous to those who remember when the fantastic black plastic ruled! :-)

I suppose if that made no sense then you might be out of the running. Hmmm .... you can still Google however. This is the era before crap, whoops rap, came along. Very much pre-Sony days .... and I promise there'll be no Britney :-)
without further ado then, presenting :
!! MIX N MATCH SONG QUIZ!!
- two lists
#1 Song titles. Who actually wrote it is not relevant to the quiz, as is precise case, spelling or punctuation.
#2 Artist(s), meaning the person or group that performed it. Ignore backing vocals, cameos, orchestras etc.
- either titles or artists are known by their name as when a given song was released. So one might be 'Paul McCartney & The Wings', and not 'Paul McCartney of The Beatles', for the song 'Jet' say. And none of this 'artist formerly known as Prince' rubbish. If it may have been released under different names ( maybe short/long title ), as happens sometimes, I'll include that.
- to be definite I've listed the titles in alphabetical order on the left. Leave them as is. Your job is to match the artist, for some title, within the second column.
- assume nothing about the shuffling I've done. The may be some correct placements already.
- first in, best dressed wins. That is, the entry with the greatest number of correct answers wins, with any ties decided by UTC time of entry - earlier wins.
- PM me you answers. Simply cut'n'paste the section below and then sort 'em out.
- judges call is final, no correspondence to be entered into etc. [ But, uummm, perhaps if I made a real boner and you can give firm references that might swing it .... :-) ][pre]
