Hello, I have been a participant here off and on since 2005, getting back into contributing again. Currently just on a small Nvidia Jetson Nano I was doing AI projects on, will spin up an i7 with a beefier GPU on this project as well tomorrow.

while taking a break from crunching, I bought a Unistellar automated, computerized telescope to play with.

Unistellar teams up with SETI Institute to run various citizen science observing projects, one category being ‘Cataclysmic Events’ such as gamma ray bursts and supernova.

A few months ago the closest supernova to Earth in a decade went off in the Pinwheel Galaxy, it was discovered by an amateur astronomer in Japan.

123 Unistellar owners went into action observing the supernova from all over the world, and SETI Institute published a paper on the supernova and gave us all co-authorship credit, that was a nice surprise.

I love all thing Astronomy and astrophysics related.

Here is a link to the paper, if anyone is interested.: https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/2515-5172/ace41f

Very nice!  And

Very nice!  And congratulations on receiving your SETI Institute paper with you as a co-author.

That's a great outcome for

That's a great outcome for yourself and other participants, showing :

'.... modeled light-curve parameters support those gathered by professional telescopes and presented in other works. As such, this study provides crucial data to the community, but also demonstrates the power of a global observing network using telescopes with homogeneous opto-electronics, like Unistellar telescopes.'

A quick Google shows that a Unistellar scope is a substantial personal investment, which you have put to good use !

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

Thanks all. Yes, the

Thanks all.

Yes, the telescopes aren’t cheap, but probably not much more than what some people put into their crunching rigs.

The supernova is still bright and visible, will gradually fade away as the year runs out. I have a nice collection of i ages of various nebula, galaxies, etc with the scope.

Going to spin up a dormant i7 with 1070 ti GPU today to contribute to E@H
