Can you wait, and/or change the order to 4th gen EPYC?
We definitely looked at this option. After talking with the OEM, and the timing of when they will offer the Genoas, we decided to go the TR route so the students will have additional months with the workstations.
That being said, I have a "long game" that DOES include the genoas but I forsee that happening in the middle of 2023. I am working with the OEM on this project but it might be a while.

I have a question for you Linux folks, I bought some new for me cpu's to replace some older slower ones in a dual cpu machine, will I have to reload Linux once it boots up again? Or will it just say okay new cpu's, with more and faster cores in them, carry on?
Supposedly according to HP and Dell stuff I've seen on the net this pc came with these other cpu's as an option way back when it was new so I'm hoping it will just boot right up as soon as the bios is done finding all the new stuff. Right now it's got 2 quad core Xeon cpu's and the new ones are 6 core Xeon cpu's, both the old cpu's and the new cpu's have hyperthreading built into them. I got the new for me cpu's off of Ebay for $15 each so if they work it's like getting another 4 cpu cores for $30.
Linux will just pick them up during the boot up process when it detects new hardware. It will load the required microcode for the new cpus, set them up and you will boot right up with the new faster and more cores with no problems.

I've upgraded all my hosts several times with new motherboards or new cpus and new motherboards with an existing OS installation and the upgrade is automatic and transparent.
I've only had issues twice where I can put the blame on a 3rd party module that taints the kernel and causes new additional cores to not be enabled and used automatically. A nuisance to be sure but easily remedied later.
Solution is to remove the external module before the upgrade in the future.

But this 2nd pc is not nearly as stable a pc in general and the power supply is minimal at best. This pc has one of those LONG psu's at the bottom of the case that makes them heavy to move around and harder to upgrade, although Ebay has them at times they are just replacement ones not upgrades.

Right now SrBase tasks and some Cosmology tasks and some MiklyWay Separation cpu tasks. It was running some WCG Africa Rainfall Tasks but I got tired of hitting retry on the downloads so stopped getting them right now. I think it even ran some Einstein O3 cpu tasks for a bit. The key is no matter what I run they take FOREVER to run, I'm not sure the new cpu's are a whole lot faster but more cpu cores will always help on the output.
